The presence of legendary former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz was definitely felt at Irish Invasion Saturday night.

Peyton Matocha, a class of 2019 quarterback from Houston St. Thomas, had a chance to speak with Holtz following the event, and it was a discussion he won’t soon forget.

“Talking with Lou Holtz was life changing,” Matocha said. “He’s such a role model. It was definitely awesome.”

Matocha was one of several quarterback prospects in town for the camp, and the young signal caller said he thought he performed well.

“I thought I did fairly well,” Matocha said. “It was a little bit windy, but I had a lot of fun and I thought I spun it pretty well.”

During his communication with Notre Dame, Matocha has become a big fan of quarterbacks coach Tom Rees, and was thrilled to get to throw in front of him.

“It was really fun,” Matocha said. “It was really fun working with coach Rees and the entire Notre Dame staff.”

Rees, Matocha said, was giving off good vibes during the entire visit.

“I love him,” Matocha said of Rees. “He’s not all business. He likes to have fun sometimes, which is really nice. I’ve grown to have a really great relationship with him.”

According to Matocha, Rees said Notre Dame will be keepin an eye on him, and evaluating him further down the road.

Matocha said he was excited to hear that.

“We talked about us keeping in touch,” Matocha said. “I think he’s going to come down to some of my games next year. So that should be a bunch of fun.”

Overall, it was a great visit for Matocha, who said Notre Dame stood out above a lot of other campuses he’s seen.

“I’ve been to a bunch of campuses over the summer, and this is definitely on my top list,” Matocha said. “The facilities and the campus in general are awesome.”

The talented Texan has been attending catholic school for some time now, so Notre Dame would be a perfect fit.

“It would mean everything,” Matocha said of a potential Notre Dame offer. “I’ve been going to catholic school my entire life, so that would be awesome.”
