RISING
STAR
He's not exactly a young
unknown, but Sanders is about to go
from a supporting role to the spotlight as
Penn State's ;rst-team running back.
During his ;rst two seasons in the pro-
gram, Sanders carried only 56 times for
375 yards. That's probably less than he
was hoping for coming out of Woodland
Hills High in western Pennsylvania as
one of the most heralded running backs
in the Class of 2016. But he was stuck
behind an all-time great player and had
to wait his turn. Now, that turn has ar-
rived. To date, his most productive Sat-
urday in the back;eld was at Rutgers
during his freshman season, a game in
which he carried ;ve times for 85 yards.
But he's about to get a lot busier. How
busy? That will likely depend not just on
how Sanders performs but on which of
the backups assert themselves as the
kind of players who need to carry the
football on a more-than-occasional
basis this fall.
BIGGEST LOSS Hmmmmm, who could
it be? Any thoughts? Any names spring-
ing to mind? Anyone at all?
Obviously, Barkley was a gigantic loss.
Other than maybe Baker May;eld, the
Heisman Trophy winner and the only
player to be taken ahead of him in the
NFL Dra= this past April, there wasn't a
more singular talent in college football
last year. Barkley ran the ball, caught the
ball, returned the ball on kicko
