AUGUST 2018 THE WOLVERINE 45 Michigan squeaked past Ohio State by 3.5 points to win The Wolverine's Big Ten All-Sports Championship in 2017- 18. The Maize and Blue finished just shy of the Buckeyes in 2016-17, but did enough to come out ahead this year. U-M won regular-season Big Ten titles in men's soccer, field hockey, women's gymnastics and softball, while add- ing tournament championships in men's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, women's gymnas- tics, women's swimming and diving, and women's tennis. Michigan's women's teams finished 4.5 points ahead of Ohio State's, while the men's teams ended up just a single point behind OSU. The Wolverines and Buckeyes took home a dominant 21 total Big Ten championships — 11 for U-M and 10 for OSU — out of the 42 possible (Notre Dame won both hockey titles this year, regular season and conference tournament, while Johns Hopkins won the men's lacrosse Big Ten Tour- nament). Minnesota collected five titles and 185 points, good for a distant third-place finish, edging out Penn State. — Andrew Vailliencourt 2017-18 BIG TEN MEN'S SPORTS FINISHES School BSB BKB CC FB GLF GYM HKY^ LAX% SOC SD TEN ITF OTF WRS PTS Ohio State 7 4 11 2* 2 4 2 6 6 3 1* 1* 1* 2* 119 Michigan 6 3* 1* T6 6 2 3 T4 3 2 2 6 4 4 118 Penn State 13 T5 8 3 4 3 4 T4 8 8 5 4 5 1 95 Indiana 2 8 7 T9 12 — — — 1 1* 6 3 2 12 84.5 Wisconsin — 11 3 1 10 — 6 — 4* 6 7 5 9 8 72 Minnesota 1* T9 6 T9 14 5 5 — — 5 4 9 7 9 70 Iowa T4 14 10 T6 3 7 — — — 7 8 7 6 3 70 Illinois T4 13 4 14 1* 1* — — — — 3 8 12 7 67.5 Purdue 3 2 5 8 8 — — — — 4 10 10 11 10 67 Michigan State 11 1 2 T4 7 — 7 — 2 10 12 T11 8 T13 66.5 Nebraska 9 T5 9 T11 11 6 — — — — 9 2 3 6 62.5 Northwestern 12 T9 — T4 5 — — — 7 9 11 — — 5 45 Maryland 10 7 — T11 9 — — 1* 5 — — — 13 T13 34.5 Rutgers 8 12 12 T11 13 — — 3 9 — — T11 10 11 29.5 2017-18 BIG TEN WOMEN'S SPORTS FINISHES School BKB CC FH GLF GYM LAX% ROW SOC SFB SD TEN ITF OTF VBL PTS Michigan 5 1* 1* 7 1* T5 2 10 1 1* 4* 8 T5 8 124 Ohio State 1* 6 5 T4 6 7 1* 2# 3 3 6 T3 T5 11 119.5 Minnesota 4 2 — 11 4 — 6 5 2* 4 9 1* 1* 3 115 Penn State 11 4 2 8 7 3 — 3* 14 8 13 6 9 1 87 Wisconsin 13 3 — T9 — — 3 4 7 5 12 7 T5 6 80 Nebraska 6 12 — 13 5 — — 6 6 10 3 9 T5 2 79.5 Purdue 9 9 — 6 — — — 8 13 6 8 2 2 5 79 Indiana 8 7 9 T9 — — 5 12 9 2 7 T3 4 13 77 Maryland 2 10 3 T2 3 1* — 11 12 — 10 11 11 9 76.5 Northwestern 12 8 4 T4 — 2 — 7 5 7 1 — — 12 74.5 Iowa 3 11 8 12 8 — 4 9 10 11 11 5 3 10 72 Michigan State 10 5 7 1* 10 — 8 13 8 13 5 12 10 4 71 Illinois 14 13 — T2 2 — — 14 4 12 2 10 12 7 65.5 Rutgers 7 14 6 14 9 T5 7 1 11 9 14 13 13 14 47.5 * Big Ten Tournament champions # Won regular-season title ^ Notre Dame is a Big Ten Conference member in ice hockey.
