2011-12 hockey preview Player Bios A Closer Look At The 2011-12 Wolverines Seniors G Shawn Hunwick 5-7 166 Sterling Heights, Mich. Assistant coach Josh Blackburn: Hes already proven himself, but this is his last year, and the nature of the position is youre always proving yourself. I have every confidence he will have a great year. As a goalie, he does a little bit of everything. Hes very athletic, and because of his size he has to be. He likes to play on top of the crease and he is pretty technical, but he can come out of that and make rodeo saves if he has to. Hes very fast and quick, and just a great athlete. Honors & Awards: Named an alternate captain for the 2011-12 season Voted the CCHA Best Goaltender, earned NCAA West Regional Most Outstanding Player, All-U.S. College Hockey Online First Team, NCAA All-Frozen Four and NCAA All-West Region honors, and was named to the Great Lakes Invitational All-Tournament Team in 2010-11 Named CCHA Tournament MVP and earned a spot on the CCHA All-Tournament Team in 2009-10 Received the University of Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement award in 2007-08. F Luke Glendening 5-11 194 Grand Rapids, Mich. Assistant coach Brian Wiseman: He is a leader. Hell set the pace, hell set the tempo as far as our teams work ethic and our identity. As Luke Glendening goes, I think youll see a lot of how our team goes. Hes a true character guy and a tremendous guy in the locker room, especially for our young guys. Honors & Awards: Named captain for the 2011-12 season, becoming only the eighth multi-year captain in Michigan hockey history Named co-captain for the 2010-11 season Received the University of Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement award, earned Great Lakes Invitational MVP honors and a spot on the Great Lakes Invitational AllTournament Team, and was a National Strength and Conditioning Association All-American in 2010-11 Named alternate captain in 2009-10 Received Michigans Alton D. Assistant coach Billy Powers: His game has really evolved here in four years. Hes a big body, he uses his weight well, hes a good physical presence for us, but his puck skills and his skating have improved throughout his career here at Michigan. He should be a rock-solid, all-around performer. I can see Greg contributing heavily on our penalty kill, and he could also be a factor on our power play. Honors & Awards: Named an alternate captain for the 2011-12 season Earned a spot on the NCAA All-West Region Team and received the University of Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement award in 2010-11.
