B A S K E T B A L L After New Orleans chose former Penn State guard Tony Carr in the second round of the NBA Draft earlier this summer, Pelicans general man- ager Dell Demps made it clear that Carr's bid to reach the league was by no means complete. "He's got a big hill to climb," Demps said. "There's no guarantee he's on our roster this year." That assessment proved prophetic. After an up-and-down pro debut in the Las Vegas Summer League, Carr signed a contract to play for Fiat Torino of the Lega Basket Serie A. Carr, who signed with Torino in July, will be the fifth American to join the team for the 2018-19 season. The LBA regular season runs from Octo- ber through May. Carr averaged 6.0 points in five Summer League games, shooting 36 percent from the field. He added 3.4 assists and 1.8 re- bounds, averaging 24 minutes per game, but was overshadowed by another rookie guard, Trevon Bluiett. An undrafted player out of Xavier, Bluiett averaged 18.3 points in four Summer League games and was signed to a two-way G League contract that will allow him to spend up to 45 days with the Pelicans.
