MAKING THE JUMP
One year after Michigan's wideouts combined for 97 receptions,
1,142 receiving yards and only three touchdown grabs — clips
of just 7.5 catches, 87.9 receiving yards and 0.2 touchdowns per
game — sophomore Donovan Peoples-Jones (No. 9) has led the
way for a position revitalization from the young corps.
Paced by Peoples-Jones' 14 grabs for 159 yards and four touch-
downs through three contests, the group has combined for 31
receptions, 407 receiving yards and six aerial scores — averages
of 10.3 catches, 135.7 receiving yards and 2.0 touchdowns per
outing.
Among the crew's accomplishments this year were stopping a
364-day skid without a U-M receiver tallying a touchdown recep-
tion in week two and a three-touchdown day by Peoples-Jones
the following outing, Michigan's first since Jehu Chesson hauled
in a school-record-tying four against Indiana during the 2015
campaign.
No position group on the roster has made a bigger jump from
2017 to this fall — and that is despite the loss of talented redshirt
freshman Tarik Black before the season even began and a new
position coach in Jim McElwain.
