www.BLUEANDGOLD.com OCT. 15, 2018 43 PREP PROFILES Notre Dame hosted several pros- pects from different classes over the weekend of the Stanford game, in- cluding 2021 offensive tackle Brody Wisecarver from St. Louis De Smet Jesuit. Wisecarver — a 6-5, 300-pound sophomore — said he loved getting to see Notre Dame up close. "The one thing I keep talking about is how old everything looked," he said. "That's one of the best parts of the campus." Obviously, the big event of the weekend was Notre Dame's 38-17 blowout win over the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal. Wisecarver said getting to experience the atmosphere of a top- 10 matchup is something he won't soon forget. "It was cool to see the offense and the offensive line get it going," he noted. "It was good to see the game played at a higher level." Overall, Wisecarver said the family feel of Notre Dame was the biggest plus that stuck out to him during the trip. "What jumps out in my mind is the community there, especially with the football team," he said. "I was talk- ing to some people who go to school there, and I liked how ev- eryone knew everyone. "It's one big g i a n t f a m i l y instead of just a bunch of people they go to school with." Wisecarver also had the chance to speak briefly with offensive line coach Jeff Quinn, and although their conversation was short, the young standout said he was impressed with the Irish line coach. "He seemed like the coach that if he believes in you, he'll push you as hard as he can," Wisecarver ex- plained. "But he wants you to work for it." Only a sophomore, Wisecarver is in the early stage of his recruitment. So far, the young lineman holds just one offer, from Kentucky. However, with his already massive frame continuing to grow, he should see more schools jump in the mix as times goes on. If Notre Dame is one of those schools, Wisecarver said he'd be ec- static. "That would be amazing," he said. "Right now, I'm just t a k i n g a n y - thing I can get from any college, but that would be great." Wisecarver is a teammate of Notre Dame 2020 wide receiver target Jordan Johnson, the No. 45 overall player in the class of 2020. — David McKinney Notre Dame hosted Tyler Buchner of San Diego Bishops, one of the top quarterbacks in the 2021 class, during the final weekend of September. The 6-2, 195-pounder participated in a camp this summer in front of the Irish coaches, and earned an offer from quarterbacks coach Tom Rees and the rest of the staff. The Stanford contest Sept. 29 was his first opportunity to see a game inside Notre Dame Stadium. " I r e a l l y had a great time," Buch- ner told Blue & Gold Illus- trated. "The culture and the game were super experiences. I really enjoyed it. It was great. There was so much to like about it. "This was my second time on cam- pus. I almost had seen everything, but I was filling in those blank spots. "We went around the campus, saw all the facilities, met a lot of the play- ers and heard about the students. It was interesting to see all the people on campus, and to talk to some Notre Dame fans and alums." Buchner enjoyed watching Irish quarterback Ian Book perform well in the top-10 matchup along with analyzing what the Notre Dame of- fense looks like up close. "I really like the play calling," Bu- chner stated. "I thought Ian Book did a very good job. It's a super fun of- fense to watch and similar to the one w e r u n i n high school. It's a RPO- based [run- p a s s o p - tion] spread with a quick game. It fits my play style really well." Being among the Notre Dame fans in South Bend was a "memorable" experience for the sophomore. "That's not something you get to do every day," Buchner noted. "It really shows what it's like to play on the field and be in that atmosphere. It's as close as you can get to playing without actually playing. "It was a little bit of a foreshadow of hopefully what I'll get to do in a couple of years." Since his offer in the summer, Bu- chner has tried to stay in contact with Rees, and he enjoyed being back around the quarterback coach in per- son on Saturday. "He's a really good guy and very personable," Buchner explained. "He's very down to earth. I really like talking to him. … I try to give him a call every week, so we talk ev- ery so often. We try to keep in touch." — Corey Bodden 2021 Offensive Tackle Has A Great First Visit To Notre Dame Game Atmosphere Impresses 2021 Quarterback TYLER BUCHNER Bishops H.S.
