Breneman is perhaps the biggest name among the January early enrollees. • FEB. 7 • MARCH 6 • MARCH 20 • APRIL 17 • APRIL 20 Tim Owen EARLY TO RISE Focused on spring practice and academics, seven prospects enroll early at Penn State RYA N   S N Y D E R A total of seven recruits – five of whom were offered scholarships and two of whom will walk on – got an early start to their college careers on Jan. 7, enrolling at Penn State for the start of its spring semester. "We're really excited about both groups of guys that came in here," head coach Bill O'Brien said, referring to the scholarship players and the so-called run-ons. "We just really want them to get off on the right foot academically. That's the big thing, so that's what their goal is right now. And then [they should] acclimate themselves to J A N U A R Y | BLUE WHITE ILLUSTRATED the weight room, conditioning and all those things with [strength coach Craig Fitzgerald] that they have to do. "We're really excited about that group of guys, and then hopefully after signing day [Feb. 6], everybody will see that we've brought in a great class of future Penn State football players." Perhaps the biggest name among the early enrollees was tight end Adam Breneman, who is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com. While the native of Camp Hill, Pa., is one of the staff's most talented 1 6 , 2 0 1 3 1 and skilled recruits, he was also the glue that helped keep Penn State's recruiting class together through a year marked by the NCAA sanctions. Throughout his first few months in Happy Valley, Breneman will be rehabbing from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and it appears that he'll be doubtful for Penn State's spring practice.
