16 THE WOLVERINE NOVEMBER 2018   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS 2 Rivals.com five-star recruits are now in U-M's 2019 recruiting class after safety Daxton Hill, No. 24 nationally, joined No. 18 Chris Hinton, a defensive end. This would mark the second time Jim Harbaugh has added multiple five-stars in a single class. He also did so in 2017, with a school-record three such incoming freshmen, and is quickly closing in on Lloyd Carr's all-time mark of three such groups (although Rivals.com dates back only to 2002, not the beginning of Carr's tenure). U-M signed just one such class (2012) from 2008-16. 3 Teams since the start of the 2011 season have beaten Wis- consin by double digits — Ohio State in 2014 (59-0), Ala- bama in 2015 (35-17) and Michigan in 2018 (38-13). The first two went on to win national championships that year. 3.93 Yards allowed per play by Michigan's defense after its first seven games, a mark that stands second in the country, be- hind only Miami's 3.8. However, the Hurricanes have played only one team listed in the Oct. 14 Associated Press top 25 (No. 5 LSU), and its seven opponents (one Football Cham- pionship Subdivision foe) are a combined 22-20 through seven weeks, while Michigan has faced off with a pair of ranked foes (No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 23 Wisconsin) and its seven opponents are a combined 25-19. Further dem- onstrating the difference, the best Football Bowl Subdivi- sion (FBS) offense Miami played was No. 44 Toledo, while Michigan has played four foes among the top 49 nationally in total yards per game. 4.3 Was five-star commit Daxton Hill's electronically timed 40-yard dash at Nike's The Opening this past spring. It was tied for the fastest mark on the circuit. Not only would it have been the fastest recorded at the 2018 NFL Combine, it would have tied for the ninth fastest at the NFL Combine since 2006. He also posted a vertical leap of 43.6 inches — both testing results are better than what cur- rent U-M sophomore wideout Donovan Peoples-Jones recorded when he won the Nike Football Rating Championship in 2015 (4.42 40, 43.5-inch vertical). 7 Straight years a Wolverine has been included on the league's official preseason All-Big Ten basketball team — redshirt junior guard Charles Matthews was among the 10-player list released O c t . 1 1 a t the league's annual media day. 8th Nationally is where Michigan's 2018 roster ranks in 247 Sports' college football team talent composite, a ranking of all current FBS rosters based on players' composite recruit- ing rankings out of high school. Per the study, U-M boasted four five-stars, 40 four-stars and 39 three-stars. In the Big Ten, the Wolverines checked in behind only No. 1 Ohio State (11 five-stars, 55 four-stars and 17 three-stars). 29 Quarterback pressures recorded through seven games by fifth-year senior defensive end Chase Winovich, which is tied for 14th nationally. Pro Football Focus has credited him with three sacks, nine quarterback hits and 17 hurries. Only two players across the country had more quarterback hits through Oct. 14. $7,504,000 Is Jim Harbaugh's 2018 pay, according to the annual coaches' salar y database released by USA Today. Har- baugh's compensation ranks third nationally, $96,000 behind No. 2 Urban Meyer of Ohio State. Harbaugh was No. 1 l a s t ye a r, b u t w a s o v e r t a k e n b y A l a b a m a 's N i c k S a b a n ( $ 8 , 3 0 7 , 0 0 0 ) this season. 57.5 Percent of senior running back KARAN HIGDON'S 687 rush- ing yards through the first seven weeks have come af- ter contact, according to Pro Football Focus. Although he missed a game, Higdon ranks 19th nationally as of Oct. 14 with 395 yards after contact, while his clip of 3.29 yards after contact per tote is tied for ninth nationally among rushers with at least 110 carries.
