10 THE WOLVERINE NOVEMBER 2018   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MICHIGAN'S TOP PERFORMERS Women's swimming senior freestyler Catie De- Loof: She was awarded with the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week accolade Oct. 3 after claiming three event victories in season-opening wins over Oakland (245-55) and Miami (Ohio) (248-52) Sept. 28 inside Can- ham Natatorium. DeLoof first won the 100-yard backstroke (54.68) before clocking NCAA "B" cuts in the 50-yard freestyle (22.65) and 100-yard freestyle (49.20). Her heroics helped the Wolverines take home all 16 events on the night. Field hockey junior midfielder/forward Meg Dowthwaite: She netted the game-winning tally on a penalty stroke with just 1:53 remaining in regulation during Michigan's impressive 1-0 victory at No. 6 Penn State Sept. 21. Junior midfielder Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort had drawn the stroke after getting toppled from behind near the Nittany Lion circle, leading to Dowthwaite's clincher. Women's soccer sophomore midfielder Nicki Hernandez: She scored the winning goal in the 54th minute of a nail-biting 1-0 tri- umph over rival Ohio State Oct. 5 in Ann Arbor. Senior forward Reilly Martin's cross pass to a breaking Hernandez in the 18-yard box led to the dagger, allowing the sopho- more to cash in from just two yards out. The goal was a team-leading seventh of the season for Hernandez (as of Oct. 15). Men's soccer sophomore forward Umar Farouk Osman: He was pegged as the Big Ten Of- fensive Player of the Week Oct. 2 af- ter accumulating two goals and an assist in consecutive victories over Ohio State and Northwestern Sept. 25 and Sept. 29, respectively. As of Oct. 15, Osman's seven goals led the club, while his 17 points were in a first place tie with junior forward Jack Hallahan for the most on the roster. Volleyball senior outside hitter Carly Skjodt: She recorded a career-best 29 kills in the Maize and Blue's 3-2 win over Indiana Oct. 6. The senior carried Michigan offen- sively throughout the night, rack- ing up 71 swings (the most she had ever taken in a match) while only committing four errors, en route to a .352 kill percentage that saw her compile six terminations in the deciding set. On top of that, Skjodt added 10 digs against the Hoo- siers, registering the 20th double-double of her U-M career. — Austin Fox Statement of Ownership, Management, and Circulation (Requester Publications Only) 1.
