T H E M O N T H I N . . . O P I N I O N S These last two weeks have shown what kind of team the Nittany Lions have, this year and last year. They're good but not great and certainly not elite. And they defi- nitely aren't good enough to compensate when their quarterback, who has carried the team for three years, doesn't play his best game. NEIL RUDEL ALTOONA MIRROR We just have to come together. We can't get defensive. We can't start pointing fin- gers. We can't look at anything else but ourselves. We have to be stronger now than ever. The ability of ICA's programs to remain competitive, or in some cases achieve greater com- petitive levels, will be dependent on the department's ability to identify and develop new revenue streams while growing traditional revenues, such as ticket sales and philanthropy. Philan- thropy, in particular, will play a critical role in the ability of the department to execute on the facilities upgrades out- lined in the master plan, Barbour said. In addition, although investment in many areas will be required for com- petitive improvement and continued revenue growth, it also will be impor- tant for the department to be criti- cally cost-conscious and e(cient with its spending, Barbour said. ■
