FOOTBALL RE C RU I T I NG RUNNING START Nittany Lions pursue a group of 'run-on' players to supplement Class of 2013 LATE CATCH? Central Dauphin's Drew Scales is one of the Lions' top run-on targets after finishing his senior season with 27 TDs. Bill Anderson | enn State's "run-on" program will take center stage in January and February now that the Nittany Lions' Class of 2013 appears to be all but finished. Once everyone has signed their letters of intent, Bill O'Brien and his staff will make the push to gather as many topquality walk-ons as possible. The staff will focus mainly on prospects from Pennsylvania due to the drastic difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. So far, the coaches have gathered commitments from five such players, two of whom have already enrolled. Quarterbacks D.J. Crook and Austin Whipple both enrolled Jan. 5 to provide Steven Bench and Tyler Ferguson with much-needed backup help going into spring practice. Kicker Chris Gulla has also made it clear that he'll be a Nittany P Lion, turning down similar offers from South Carolina and Rutgers. Two local players also plan to join the squad. Defensive tackle Evan Galimberti of State College and athlete Von Walker of Mill Hall have both made it clear that they're not interested in Division II or Football Championship Subdivision programs and will be joining the Nittany Lions this summer. Below is a breakdown of the five committed prospects and 12 additional players who are looking to run-on at Penn State this summer. D.J. CROOK offer from Holy Cross. He decided to take the prep school route, hoping to earn more opportunities. He called Penn State "the perfect opportunity." He is currently roommates with Austin Whipple. TOM DEVENNEY OL | 6-3 | 278 | Lititz, Pa. | Warwick Devenney was recently accepted into Penn State's engineering school, but he's starting to receive interest from a number of FCS programs. He was the offensive line MVP in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and was an honorable mention All-State choice by PAFootballnews.com. QB | 6-2 | 200 | Hyannis, Mass. | Worcester Academy Crook enrolled at Penn State on Jan. 5. Coming out of Barnstable (Mass.)
