MATT BROWN
THE MYTHBUSTER
From Utah to Iowa
to Mozambique and Angola,
Penn State's 174-pounder
travels an unequalled path
into the starting lineup
H
ave you heard the one about
Matt Brown, how he can pump
out 120 push-ups in two minutes? Or how he can move up
three weight classes – nearly
a 30-pound disadvantage from
his certified weight – to topple one of
the best wrestlers in the country? Or
how he wears the biggest smile of all
during the team's most excruciating
conditioning sessions?
Brown, Penn State's sophomore 174pounder, has also spent two years in
Africa, where he spread the word of
his Mormon faith in a language that
he had learned in only six months.
Then when he returned to the United
States in June 2011 and enrolled at
Penn State, not only did he join the
wrestling team, but he also joined the
Army ROTC. Throughout, he has
maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Seems almost mythological, don't
