48 NOV. 5, 2018 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED MEN'S BASKETBALL BY COREY BODDEN O ver the summer, Blue & Gold Illustrated broke down some of the major questions/top- ics facing Notre Dame head- ing into head coach Mike Brey's 19th season. Those have developed a bit the past couple of months. With a three- game foreign tour complete and an open practice in October, BGI revisits the top storylines for the Irish with the season opener Nov. 6 versus Illi- nois-Chicago drawing near. D.J. HARVEY COMING ON STRONG AFTER INJURY When Notre Dame held an open scrimmage for the media Oct. 14, there was no doubt which player stole the show: sophomore wing D.J. Harvey. The 6-6, 225-pounder had micro- fracture knee surgery in February and his health status was still a little bit of an unknown when October rolled around and fall practice com- menced. Discussion about a potential redshirt was ample in the months following the surgery. Harvey made an 'I'm back' an- nouncement Oct. 8, but it was not clear whether that was for basic on- court activities or a full-go. So, it was quite the surprise when he was a full- go for the 45-minute session. During the open practice, Harvey led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of- 10 shooting while knocking down shots on all three levels and showing the potential he did during his fresh- man campaign. Improving his conditioning is the next step, but Brey mentioned at ACC media day Oct. 24 that Harvey had not shown any negatives when it came to the knee after a week of practice. "I'm getting there," Harvey said after the workout. "I've got to get my lungs back, I've got to get back in the flow of the game and everything, but if feels good to be back playing with my guys. I missed them.
