www.BLUEANDGOLD.com NOV. 19, 2018 11 UNDER THE DOME Senior Day doesn't necessarily always mean goodbye for all the seniors. Eight fourth-year seniors that were introduced prior to the Florida State game at Notre Dame Stadium Nov. 10 still have options to weigh about their football futures. One of them, cornerback Shaun Crawford, already has indicated to head coach Brian Kelly that he will return for his fifth season in 2019. In fact, Crawford even could apply, if he so desires, for a sixth season in 2020, depending on what circum- stances arise, especially regarding health. As a 2015 freshman, Crawford missed the entire campaign because of a torn ACL suffered in the pre- season. The next season in game two, versus Nevada, Crawford tore his Achilles tendon that shelved him for the final 10 games. He played the entire 2017 campaign, mainly in a nickel role, finishing ninth in tackles (32), second in interceptions (two) and fumbles recovered (two), third in passes broken up (five) , and forced a crucial fumble near the end zone at Michigan State that he also recovered to swing the game's momentum in the 38-18 Irish win. This year, he was vying for a major role again before an ACL tear the Tuesday prior to the opener versus Michigan Sept. 1 ended his season. He has maintained a remarkable at- titude, resolve and rehab schedule since then, according to Irish head coach Brian Kelly. "He will be back next year," con- firmed Kelly of Crawford's 2019 sta- tus. "He's already made that com- mitment to play next year. He'll be back competing in the spring, work- ing to get back into a competitive situation." The other seven seniors who will have decisions to make on whether to return, turn pro or use their fifth season as graduate transfers imme- diately eligible at another school are, alphabetically: rover Asmar Bilal, wide receiver Miles Boykin, defensive lineman Micah Dew-Treadway, wide receiver Chris Finke, tight end Alizé Mack, right guard/center Trevor Ruhland and quarter- back Brandon Wimbush. Such discussions between players and coaches will likely take place in December, after the regular season.
