MVP — Senior Emma Way: The Big Ten Offensive Player of Year led the league and ranked 11th nationally with an average of 0.9 goals per game. She started all 21 games for the Wolverines this season, with 19 goals and five as- sists. She had 108 shots this season. MEN'S SOCCER Best Performance — 1-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament Nov. 9: Michigan advanced to the finals of the league tournament with a 1-0 vic- tory over Wisconsin in the semifinals. This was the first time Michigan advanced to the tournament final since 2012. The Wolverines' lone goal came on a penalty kick by sophomore midfielder Marc Ybarra. Michigan tallied only four shots, none of which were on goal. Even though the Wolverines lost in the cham- pionship contest to Indiana, Michigan was selected for its second consecutive NCAA Tournament. U-M was scheduled to host Princeton Nov. 15 in the first round. MVP — Junior forward Jack Hal- lahan: The Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year is the first Wolverine to win this award since its inception in 2009. He was also one of four unanimous All-Big Ten selections alongside Indiana's Francesco Moore, Andrew Gutman and Trey Muse. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, Hallahan had scored eight goals and tallied a team-best eight assists, becom- ing the fifth player in program history to reach the 20-point plateau in back- to-back seasons. After the Big Ten Tour- nament, he led the conference in shots (63) and was fourth in goals, third in assists and third in points (24). WOMEN'S SOCCER Best Performance — 2-0 win over No. 17 Wisconsin Sept. 20: While Mich- igan finished the season with a 9-9-1 re- cord and missed the NCAA Tournament, the Wolverines earned one of its five Big Ten wins against a ranked foe. Michigan defeated Wisconsin 2-0 behind goals from its senior leaders Reilly Martin and Ashley Calcagno. This was the second straight season Michigan defeated a ranked Wisconsin team. It also marked Michigan's best victory of the season. The Wolverines' season ended in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, where they fell 1-0 to No. 16 Penn State. Michigan held strong for most of the game until the Nittany Lions tallied a game-winning goal in the 89th minute. MVP — Sophomore midfielder Nicki Hernandez: In her second season with the program, the Naperville, Ill., native led the Wolverines with 22 points on eight goals and six assists — all three marks led the squad. While Hernandez had a strong offen- sive season, she wasn't one of the three Wolverines selected to the All Big-Ten teams. Martin and sophomore mid- fielder Sarah Stratigakis were named to the league's second team, while de- fender Janiece Joyner earned a spot on the All-Freshman quad. VOLLEYBALL Best Per formance — Michigan's non-conference slate: The Wolverines began their season by winning all 11 of their non-conference games before falling to No. 3 Nebraska in their first Big Ten contest. In those 11 tilts, Michigan only dropped one set, which came in its final non-conference game against Notre Dame. Michigan has also impressed in Big Ten play, which runs through Nov. 24. The Wolverines have already knocked off two ranked opponents at home, No. 14 Purdue (3-0) Oct. 5 and No. 5 Wisconsin (3-1) Nov. 4. MVP — Senior outside hitter Carly Skjodt: As of Nov. 13, Skjodt led the Wolverines with 405 kills, 4.22 kills per set and 1,142 total attacks. Her 441 points are the most on the team. She also is one of Michigan's best at getting digs. With 247 digs this season, she ranks third on the team. She has already earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors twice this season. Other accolades include the Michigan Invita- tional Tournament MVP, along with be- ing named to the War Eagle Invitational All-Tournament Team. ❏ Updates On Winter Sports In Progress Men's Swimming and Diving U-M started out the season un- defeated at 5-0 … The Wolverines had dominated Oakland, Miami (Ohio), Nor thwestern, Iowa and Denver … In the ACC/Big Ten Chal- lenge Nov. 10-11, Michigan helped the Big Ten win with sophomore Ricardo Vargas winning the 1,000- yard freestyle in 8:46.64, the fastest time in the nation … Junior Felix Aubock won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:13.06, also the fastest time na- tionally so far this season. Women's Swimming And Diving Michigan started the season 5-0 … U-M dominated Oakland, Miami (Ohio), Nor thwestern, Iowa and Denver … Then, the Wolverines helped the Big Ten defeat the ACC in the conferences' annual meet … Senior Siobhán Haughey (200-yard freestyle) and freshman Maggie MacNeil (50-yard freestyle) were both individual victors … On the first day of the event, MacNeil low- ered her school record in the 100- yard butterfly to 50.09, the fastest time in the nation so far this year. Wrestling The Wolverines earned first-year head coach Sean Bormet's first ca- reer victory against Central Michi- gan Nov. 11 with a 32-12 decision over its in-state foe … Redshirt ju- niors and returning All-Americans Stevan Micic (133), Logan Massa (165) and Myles Amine (174) all earned second-period pins … Mich- igan won seven matches with five bonus-point victories, including the three falls. — Andrew Hussey Junior forward Jack Hallahan was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and helped the U-M men's soccer team earn an NCAA at-large bid.
