concentrated on basketball instead of volleyball? I would have made a lot more money. Do you think you would have been as successful in basketball as you have been in volleyball? I think success is based on how hard you work and your ability to lead others. Cer- tainly, I wouldn't say the sports are the same, but I don't see why I wouldn't have predicted a level of success. Certainly, the compensation is many times different. So where do you go from here? In December 2015, you signed a five- year contract. Joe Paterno used to always say he was going to stay five more years because he understood the importance of how con- tracts and perceptions impact recruit- ing. I think I still have a good handle on my job responsibilities, but nothing is forever. I'm sure there's something I can do. I don't think this is the only thing I can do. I think it goes back to what I said earlier. I coach volleyball clinics around the country. I don't believe I have to coach volleyball to be successful. Do you have any professional re- grets? Not really. I look forward. I don't look back. You have to coach the players you have, not the ones you don't have. Sometimes you can win on will, and it's not always about skill. That's the part of coaching that I like, when you have some group of individuals who are will- ing to work. Not everybody wants to work and not everybody works hard. I'm in the office every day. I come here early Sundays and there's nobody here. I'm sending emails at 3 to 4 in the morn- ing, and a lot of times I don't expect a response. But I know who's awake. I tell people all the time, I'm an acquired taste. I get it. But you can't ask others to do things if you're not going to work hard. I'm not the smartest guy in the room. I'm not the fittest guy in the room anymore, but I can still work hard. And I can still tell people the truth. That's enough for me. ■ ##"&$%' #!
