Only seven of the prospects in that class are still playing for the team as it gets set to wrap up its 2018 regular season: Koa Farmer, Amani Oruwariye, Nick Scott, Johnathan Thomas, DeAndre Thompkins, Chasz Wright and McSorley. When the Nit- tany Lions face Maryland on Nov. 24, those seniors will be saluted before the game, taking the field with their families, receiving their bouquets and a hug from Franklin, and soaking up the applause of a Beaver Stadium crowd for the final time as players. McSorley has already engineered a pair of victories over the Terrapins, amassing 506 yards of total offense and six touchdowns the past two sea- sons. The Terps figure to be as happy to see him depart as Indiana coach Tom Allen was last month. McSorley finished with 327 yards of total of- fense in a 33-28 win over the Hoosiers in October, and Allen said he tried to find McSorley after the game to shake his hand. "Glad I'm not going to see him again," the coach said, "because he's a tough, tough kid." Whether you're a Penn State fan relishing his last few games in a Nit- tany Lion uniform or a rival coach eager to see him move on to the next level and become someone else's problem, it's impossible not to re- spect the resilience and sheer will to win that McSorley has displayed throughout his college career. That's what he was hoping for when he signed with the Nittany Lions, and it's what he has achieved. "My approach has always been to just [have] a good mentality, work hard, be humble as much as possible," he said. "When I was growing up, I al- ways thought that I wanted to leave a mark on the people I was playing against. … If [coaches] have got that kind of respect for me with what I've been able to do, it means that my ap- proach and my mentality are paying off. Hopefully, I can continue to do that and leave that sort of legacy." ■
