www.BLUEANDGOLD.com NOV. 26, 2018 9 UNDER THE DOME 0 Lost-yardage plays by Notre Dame's offense in 75 snaps in the 42-13 victory against Florida State Nov. 10. Per the Notre Dame football media relations' office, in no other game since the start of the Ara Parseghian regime in 1964 has this occurred. The Seminoles possessed one of the better defensive front lines the Irish will see this year and came into the contest averaging 6.4 tackles per loss. This is akin to Notre Dame's 24-6 victory at LSU in 1997, which is the lone contest played by the Irish in which it committed neither a penalty nor a turnover (which Northwestern also achieved versus the Irish in a 31-21 loss a week before the FSU game). 3-0 Record Notre Dame has against USC in the Los Angeles Coliseum when it plays the Trojans on Nov. 24 — as it will this weekend. The last such victory was 22-13 in 2012, thus completing a 12-0 regular season. The others occurred in 1990 (10-6) and 1984 (19-7), with the latter ending a streak of eight visits to the Coliseum since 1968 without emerging victorious (0-7-1). 5 Junior IAN BOOK was expected to be the fifth different Notre Dame quarterback from California to start against USC in his native home state since 1960. The others were Daryle Lamonica (1960 and 1962), John Huarte (1964), Steve Beuerlein (1984 and 1986) and Jimmy Clausen (2008). A native of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Book is looking to become the first Irish California QB since Beuerlein in 1986 to win at the Los Angeles Coliseum. 5-3 Mark posted by ninth-year Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly against archrival USC. He has the third most victories by an Irish coach against the Trojans, behind only Lou Holtz (9-1-1 from 1986-96) and Frank Leahy (8-1-1 from 1941-43 and 1946-53). Kelly is also seeking his third win at the Los Angeles Coliseum, which also trails only Leahy and Holtz with four apiece. 7 Consecutive home games played by Notre Dame's men's basketball team from Nov. 6-27 to open the 2018-19 season. It is the first time that has occurred since the 1986-87 campaign, when the Irish opened the season with losses at home to Western Kentucky and Indiana before finishing the year by advancing to the Sweet 16. The first game away from Purcell Pavilion this year will be a neutral-site contest Dec. 4 versus Oklahoma in the Jimmy V Classic at New York's Madison Square Garden, and the first true road game on another team's campus will be at UCLA Dec. 8. 84.1 Pass-rush grade given to Notre Dame by Pro Football Focus, which grades every play in every Football Bowl Subdivision game. That figure entering the weekend of Nov. 17 ranked third nationally — behind the two teams that also were ahead of it in the College Football Playoff rankings released Nov. 13: Clemson (89.9) and Alabama (87.3). The grade is based on a combination of sacks, hits and hurries on the quarterback. 1936 Per NDNation poster "Olson," this was the year the St. Mary Gaels played a football game in the nation's three largest cities — New York, Los Angeles and Chicago — the way Notre Dame is this year. It is believed to be the only other school to do that in football other than Notre Dame. The 2018 Fighting Irish this month played in Chicago on Nov. 3 (Northwestern), New York Nov. 17 (Syracuse in Yankee Stadium) and wrap up the regular season at Los Angeles Nov. 24 (USC). This is the eighth time in school history the Irish played in all three of those cities, with the previous such excursions occurring in 1992. The 1936 St. Mary's team, coached by Notre Dame graduate and former Knute Rockne center Edward "Slip" Madigan, played during the month of October at Loyola Marymount in the Los Angeles Coliseum, Fordham at New York City's Polo Grounds, and Marquette University at Chicago's Soldier Field. Madigan was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1974. St. Mary's dropped football after the 2003 season. ✦ BY THE NUMBERS PHOTO BY BILL PANZICA
