F
ormer NC State two-sport standout Tim Stoddard will
always be known for winning a national title in bas-
ketball at NC State and also winning a World Series
championship with the Baltimore Orioles in 1983.
Stoddard was part of NC State's legendary 1974 national
championship squad, but then went on to play 13 years in
major league baseball and played in a pair of World Series
with the Orioles in 1979 and 1983, winning in the latter year
over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 6-7 Stoddard averaged 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in
20.1 minutes per game for the 1973-74 Wolfpack en route
to topping UCLA in the semifinals and Marquette in the
national title game. Stoddard finished his NCSU career av-
eraging 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest in 86 games
played.
After a successful career on the baseball diamond at NC State, Stoddard was selected in the second round of the 1975 MLB Draft by
the Chicago White Sox.
