C State's former head basketball coach Herb
Sendek and its longtime baseball manager Elliott
Avent are anything but similar personalities.
Sendek is mild-mannered and formal. During his
tenure with the Wolfpack from 1997-2006, Sendek may have
been the most unlikely coach in the ACC to get a technical
foul. On the other end of the spectrum, Avent needed only three
games last year to get ejected by an umpire crew.
Few can relate to the differences between the two more than
Andrew Brackman, a 6-10 spectacle on the hardwood and pitch-
ing mound. For two years, Brackman was a valuable contributor
to a pair of Wolfpack basketball teams that reached the NCAA
Tournament, including advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2005 dur-
After a strong junior campaign that saw him post a 3.81 ERA while striking out 74 batters in 78 innings, Brackman was selected 30th
overall in the first round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees.
