62 THE WOLVERINE JANUARY 2019 BY AUSTIN FOX N ew England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has obviously accom- plished plenty during his NFL tenure — he has won five Super Bowls, was named the MVP in four of them and has taken home the regular season's Most Valuable Player award three times. In a 24-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings Dec. 2, Brady set another mile- stone — 1,000 career rushing yards. It took him just shy of 19 full seasons (2000 was his rookie campaign) and 265 games to reach that level. "The only reason I've been playing 19 years is to get those 1,000 yards," he said on Instagram. "That's it — I'm out. Time to ride off into the sunset." The social media post was obvi- ously in good fun, but Brady also made a few genuine comments about the achievement as well. "It's just playing a lot of football," he said. "And obviously, I'm not a scrambler, but hopefully I can make a couple plays [with my feet]. I just give a lot of credit to the offensive line because they blocked their tails off today against a good front. "I don't want to make too much of the four- or five-yard gain [that the 1,000 yards occurred on], because it wasn't really a difference in the game." The NFL JOURDAN LEWIS CLINCHES BIG WIN FOR DALLAS With Dallas leading New Orleans 13-10 and just 2:16 remaining in the Nov. 29 affair, Saints quarterback Drew Brees took a shotgun snap from his own 20-yard line, attempt- ing to lead his team on a potential game-winning drive. He tossed a poorly thrown ball to- ward the right side line in hopes of hitting running back Alvin Kamara, but instead saw Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis make a diving intercep- tion at the 22-yard line, sealing a huge Dallas victory over the 10-1 Saints. The pick was the second of Lewis' two-year NFL career (first of the sea- son), but in a pro tenure that has been defined by spotty playing time, was undoubtedly the biggest play of his career.
