U-M Winter Sports Recap Men's Gymnastics: The Wolverines traditionally kick off the year with the Windy City Invitational, a prestigious early-season competition that pits some of the best the teams in the country against each other. Michigan won it this year for the first time since 2009 — a season that saw the team finish second at the NCAA Championships. The Wolverines posted an incredible score of 431.3 at the event, 3.55 points ahead of second-place Illinois, which figures to be Michigan's stiffest competition at the Big Ten Championships April 5-6. Michigan dominated the all-around competition at the Windy City Invitational, too. Sophomore Adrian de los Angeles won the title (88.4), and senior Rohan Sebastian took second place (86.75). Sophomore Stacey Ervin also took first place in the vault (15.4). Meet To Watch — Feb. 2 vs. No. 6 California: Michigan has two high-profile Pac-12 foes traveling to Ann Arbor for early-season showdowns. First up is No. 3 Stanford Jan. 26. A week later, the Golden Bears come to town. Women's Gymnastics: Michigan could not have asked for a better start to the season. Through Jan. 21, the Wolverines stood undefeated, including two big wins over Big Ten foes (196.9‑196.3 over Nebraska and 197.35‑195.1 over Illinois. The point total Michigan posted against the Fighting Illini marked the highest dual-meet total the team has posted since 2008. The Wolverines opened the season with a first-place finish at the annual Cancun Classic, defeating BYU and then-No. 9 Oregon State with a score of 196.575. At the event, Michigan dominated the all-around competition, with junior Joanna Sampson (39.425), sophomore Sachi Sugiyama (39.3) and senior Katie Zurales (39.275) going one-two-three in the all-around competition. Through three meets, the Wolverines have had the top scorer in every event except two against Nebraska. Meet To Watch — Feb. 8 at No. 21 Ohio State: In order to continue their hot streak, the Wolverines will have to hit the road and take on a tough Ohio State team. The Buckeyes (2‑1) lost to Oregon State Jan. 11, a team that the Wolverines beat in the Cancun Classic. Men's Tennis: The Wolverines won their season-opening match against TCU, 4-3, Jan. 19. At No. 1 singles, senior Evan King defeated TCU's Nick Chappell, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3; sophomore Michael Zhu beat J.T. Sundling, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot; and junior Barrett Franks beat Orlando Superlano, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 in No. 5 singles. In doubles action, King and junior Shaun Bernstein won No. 1 doubles, 8-7. The season begins in earnest now. The Wolverines travel to Berkley, Calif., Jan. 25-26 for the annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend. There, they will face Santa Clara, and
