elected not to sign during the early pe- riod because he wanted to take an offi- cial visit to Alabama in January. As of this writing, Ishmael Sopsher was the Crimson Tide's top target at defensive tackle, with Hunte being a potential backup plan. We still believe that Penn State has a chance here, but we're not as confident as we once were. A lot of friends and family have become in- volved in Hunte's recruitment in recent months, and those new voices may have helped Miami. The Hurricanes signed one of Hunte's high school teammates, offensive lineman Adam Elgammal, during the early period. We still wouldn't be shocked if he picked the Lions, but the Canes are serious players now. Alabama could also join the mix if it misses out on Sopsher. JAQUAZE SORRELLS SCHOOLS Penn State, Alabama, South Carolina THE LATEST Sorrells attended one of Penn State's bowl practices last month in Florida and is planning to take an o3cial visit to University Park sometime in Jan- uary. A four-star defensive tackle from Winter Park, Fla., he had planned an o3- cial visit to South Carolina on the week- end of Jan. 18-20. Most believe the Gamecocks are the team to beat. Alabama is also in the mix. SMITH VILBERT SCHOOLS Penn State, Florida, Oregon, Syracuse THE LATEST Penn State became the team to beat when Vilbert took an o3cial visit Dec. 7-9. He also took an o3cial visit to Florida Jan. 11-13, and he may travel to Syracuse this month, but the Lions appear to be in the lead for the three-star defensive end from Montvale, N.J. His mother has been impressed with Penn State's aca- demic programs and is in the Lions' corner. We were expecting Sean Spencer and Phil Galiano to resume in-home visits with Vil- bert in mid-January. Franklin also saved his in-home visit with Vilbert. That will likely take place at the end of the month. ■ 2019 HOT LIST * NAME HT WT RATING HOME SCHOOL Mark-Antony Richards 6-1 187 ★★★★ Palm Beach, Fla.
