24 CAVALIER CORNER BY MIKE SCANDURA E VEN THOUGH THIRD-YEAR Morgan Hill already was mak- ing waves before Todd DeSorbo was named Virginia's head swimming coach in August of 2017, he had his own take on the talented freestyler. "Virginia attracts specific types of stu- dent-athletes," DeSorbo said. "Some are interested in their sport, and some are more interested in their academics. She has the best of both worlds. "She fits that mold. She thrives in the pool and in the classroom." Hill was named to the ACC All-Academic Team last season, and she underscored her talent in the pool with a record-breaking performance at the prestigious Georgia Fall Invite — one of the nation's top mid-season meets — Nov. 29-Dec. 1. Hill set a school record (47.83 seconds) in the 100-yard freestyle while placing fourth. She also placed among the top five in the 200 freestyle (third), 100 butterfly (fourth) and 50 freestyle (fifth), plus was part of four relay teams that placed among the top five. Her season-best times in the 100 free- style (47.83) and 50 freestyle (22.05) ranked 10th and 11th nationally, respectively, as of Jan. 24.
