WHAT HE DID Johnson threw for 1,707
yards as a senior at Sheldon, with 19
touchdown passes and only three inter-
ceptions. He also added 1,177 yards and 16
TDs on the ground. His rushing total in-
cluded six games in which he ran for 100
yards or more. For his career, Johnson
threw for 7,386 yards and 84 touchdowns.
He only fumbled once during his junior
and senior seasons. The son of Missis-
sippi State wide receivers coach Michael
Johnson Sr., he began his high school ca-
reer at King's Academy in California be-
fore transferring to Sheldon prior to his
junior season a@er his father was hired to
coach the wideouts at Oregon. During his
senior year, he led the Irish to the OSAA
Class 6A state championship game,
where they lost to Lake Oswego. In his
four seasons as a high school starter, his
teams compiled a combined 38-11 record.
WHAT HE WON Johnson was an Under
Armour All-America selec-
tion, an Elite 11 ers. Other notable programs that
pursued him were Alabama, Florida,
Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State,
Texas A&M and Washington.
QUOTABLE Johnson: "There's one mo-
ment that really stands out to me when
it comes to what really got me convinced
that Penn State is the school for me.
When I took my visit, we went out to
hang with some of the players one night,
and Trace McSorley really took me under
his wing. Trace was a counselor at the
Elite 11 Finals, which I was at. I kind of
got to talk to him a little bit out there, but
