WHAT
HE DID
A three-year starter at Ca-
narsie, Isaac totaled 77 tackles during a
dominant senior season, including 34 for
a loss of yards, and an eye-catching 22
sacks. He also forced eight fumbles. As a
junior, Isaac posted 57 tackles and eight
sacks. He totaled 35 sacks for his career.
The Chiefs improved their record in each
of the three years that Isaac was part of
the team. In 2018, they s.
WHAT HE WON Isaac participated in the
Rivals Five-Star Challenge in June. He
was named New York's Defensive Player
of the Year by USA Today and was also
named Big 44 Defensive Player of the Year
in 2017 and '18. Isaac earned All-Borough
and All-City honors the past two seasons.
A member of the Rivals250, he ranks No.
181 overall. Rivals.com lists him as a four-
star prospect and has him <@h among
weakside defensive ends nationally and
No. 1 in New York.
WHERE HE VISITED Isaac visited Penn
State for the er the following February
and returned to campus in March and
again in April. Michigan and Texas A&M
also earned visits in the spring, but by
early summer, it was becoming clear that
the Nittany Lions were the team to beat.
Isaac took his o?cial visit in September –
his sixth trip to University Park. In No-
vember, he checked out Miami and was
giving the Hurricanes some serious
thought in the weeks leading up to the
start of the early signing period. But Isaac
decided that he wanted to be closer to his
mother and his three siblings in New
York. "I felt good about both schools, but
when I thought about my family and
everything my mother has done for us, I
just didn't want to go far," he said. "I want
to be there if she needs me and if I need
her." Isaac committed to Penn State on
Dec. 17 and signed later that week.
QUOTABLE Isaac: "I just felt like [Penn
State] was the best place for me and my
family. I was extremely comfortable every
time I went out to campus, and it just hit
all the right spots from academics to
football. It's perfect."
PHIL'S TAKE Of all the highlight videos I
watched of Penn State's latest recruits,
Isaac's was the most impressive. He has a
very explosive the edge. He's relentless in
pursuing the play from the backside. Even
with the depth that Penn State has
amassed at defensive end, I predict Isaac
will not redshirt as a true freshman. ■
