T H E C L A S S O F 2 0 1 9 >> P L A Y E R B I O S WHAT HE DID Smyrna struggled in 2018, 9nishing with a 3-6 record, but just one year earlier the Eagles went 10-2 and ad- vanced to the Delaware Division I state championship game, where they defeated Middletown, 30-27. During Wormley's junior season, Smyrna averaged 418 yards of total o:ense per game and rushed for more than 3,000 yards. WHAT HE WON Wormley participated in the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in June. He was named Delaware's O:ensive Line- man of the Year by the Delaware Inter- scholastic Football Coaches Association and earned 9rst-team honors on USA Today's All-USA Delaware squad. Con- sidered the best prospect in Delaware for the Class of 2019, Wormley comes in at No. 108 overall in the Rivals250 and No. 5 in the o:ensive guard rankings. He made major improvements this past o:-season, going from a mid-range three-star prospect to one of the top o:ensive line- men in the country. WHERE HE VISITED Wormley visited Penn State three times in a five-week span last spring. Before his commitment in July 2018, he also took official visits to Notre Dame and Rutgers. Wormley earned just shy of 20 scholarship offers. Duke, Florida State, Maryland, Oregon and West Virginia were some of the more noteworthy schools that pursued him. QUOTABLE Smyrna head coach Mike Judy, to the (Delaware) State News: "He's one of those [players] where you don't have to worry about his performance in the game. He was completely dominant throughout the year. He did a great job, he's been a great leader." PHIL'S TAKE Wormley is an outstanding drive blocker who excels at making the pancake block. The past two seasons, he saw action at right tackle, but he's ex- pected to play guard at Penn State. Even though he stands 6-foot-3, 311 pounds, Wormley is light on his feet. He has a good punch and is a solid pass blocker who does an excellent job of keeping his feet moving and sustaining his blocks. The Nittany Lions' sta: views him as an interior lineman, which means he could end up at guard or center. I expect him to start out at guard. I also expect him to redshirt and retain his freshman eligibil- ity going into the 2020 season. ■ DELAWARE DESTROYER Wormley was named Delaware's Offensive Lineman of the Year follow- ing his senior sea- son at Smyrna.
