interesting one because you just don't know. His dad, I think, played wide re- ceiver early in his college career, and then ends up being one of the better 3-4 outside linebacker/defensive end type guys to play in the NFL [and had a] very successful NFL career. You just don't know. Is [Porter Jr.] going to have a simi- lar progression: corner to safety to out- side linebacker? You never know. We love all those guys at corner right now, but I do think a lot of these guys create some position :exibility with corner or safety." LEAD RECRUITER No question, this goes to Seider. Hired to coach PSU's running backs a year ago, Seider was known for his recruiting prowess, and he put those talents into action immedi- ately. With deep roots in his home state of Florida, he played a pivotal role in landing Dunmore's commitment – and then in keeping him committed when the Hurricanes made a late surge. And that's not all. Seider also was a lead re- cruiter for Cain at IMG Academy, and his relationship with Johnson's father was one of the reasons why the Oregon QB decided to go cross-country to at- tend college. A West Virginia alumnus who also coached at Marshall, Seider has a knowledge of that state that helped PSU identify tight end Brenton Strange. At the end of the cycle, Seider teamed up with new receivers coach Gerad Parker to land another Florida receiver, T.J. Jones. READY FOR IMPACT (OFFENSE) With the early departures of guard Connor McGovern and tackle Ryan Bates to the NFL Dra<, Lackawanna College o;en- sive lineman Anthony Whigan seems to be arriving at an opportune time. Whigan is the best junior college o;en- sive tackle in the country, according to Rivals. He also has the ability to play in- side at guard. He stands 6-foot-4, and coaches describe him as a "skinny" 292 pounds. His arrival on campus in Janu- ary should give him enough time in the weight room to put on the necessary size in order to be ready to contribute in the fall. READY FOR IMPACT (DEFENSE) A fel- low juco prospect, JaQuan Brisker joins Penn State's defense at a position of need. With the graduation of starting safety Nick Scott, there will be an opening for Brisker to step in. He'll have to compete for the spot against Jonathan Sutherland and Lamont Wade, who briefly mulled a transfer. As one of the most productive defensive backs in the juco ranks in 2018, Brisker is going to give them all they can handle once he arrives on campus this summer. He played all over the field at Lack- awanna, but mostly at a hybrid-LB po- sition – which is not entirely different from the boundary safety spot previ- ously manned by Scott and Marcus Allen. If Brisker maintains his hitting ability and combines it with his ball skills, he could prove too talented to keep off the field. ■ HUB-Robeson Center, On-Campus T H E C L A S S O F 2 0 1 9 >>
