dash Penn State's golden opportunity to send the game to overtime with just sec- onds remaining. The Buckeyes' 74-70 victory left the Nittany Lions with an 8- 15 overall record and a 1-11 mark heading into a home game against Michigan on Feb. 12. Still, just as he'd done days earlier, Chambers praised the tenacity of his team as it continued to string together competitive games in spite of its lack of success in the wins column. He said he believes the hard-luck lessons of the sea- son's first few months have been paying dividends. "I'm very, very proud of my team for their grit, their guts, showing up every day. I've been saying that... for weeks," Chambers said. "And I think we found the team that we've been looking for, the identity that we've been searching for. "[There's been] a lot of growth, a lot of learning, and I think we're getting better. … Over the last few games, I think we've gotten better." The challenge for the Lions will be to t ra n s l a te t h a t d eve l o p m e n t i n to wins. They've been focused on defense and rebounding in the belief that playing tough, physical basketball is their surest path to improvement. Chambers said that continued develop- ment will be crucial if the Lions are going to return to the winner's circle as they head into the final weeks of the regular season. Stevens and the rest of the Nit- tany Lions have fully bought into that message. "I think this team has a lot of hope," he said. "The Big Ten is a great league, and I feel like it's hard to be out of it when you're playing great teams and great coaches every single night. Knowing that we [can] really turn this thing around, it's just what kept us going, kept us motivated. You've got to have fun with it, win or lose, and you've got to get up every day and have a positive attitude. Negativity really isn't going to get you anywhere." ■ With a 17-point performance against Iowa on Feb. 3, senior guard Teniya Page became only the sixth Penn State women's basketball player to surpass 2,000 career points. Page passed Tanisha Wright (1,995 points) on PSU's all-time scoring list, and tied Kahadeejah Herbert (2,026) three days later at Ohio State. She headed into the Lady Lions' Feb. 14 game at Northwestern with 2,043 career points. At Ohio State, Page also became the first player in Penn State history to have 2,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists. She reached that milestone by totaling seven assists in a 78-73 loss to the Buckeyes. ■ FANTASTIC CUISINE EXCEP TIONAL ATMOSPHERE Colleg W ve Av .
