After a roller coaster recruiting year, the members of Penn State's Class of 2013 have signed on the dotted line. The staff lost five highly touted recruits throughout the process, with most of the losses ocurring after the NCAA announced its sanctions in July. But the Nittany Lions still were able to add 17 scholarship players to the program. Consensus five-star quarterback Christian Hackenberg and four-star tight end Adam Breneman are the headliners of the class. They are the two highest-rated reF E B R U A R Y | BLUE WHITE ILLUSTRATED cruits to pick Penn State since Derrick Williams and Justin King in 2005. The class also features a couple of threestar linebackers, four under-the-radar defensive backs, four linemen, two versatile offensive players with whom Bill O'Brien can experiment, two athletic pass rushers and a junior college quarterback. In all, Penn State finished with one five-star, three four-star, eight three-star and five two-star recruits, as rated by Rivals.com. ESPN ranks the class No. 24 in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten. O'Brien 7 , 2 0 1 3 1 said, however, that rankings don't matter as much as finding a prospects who fit within the program's core mission. "Penn State is a very unique, special place to play college football," he said. "I don't care about stars and rankings. Somebody came running into the office this morning and said, 'Hey, we're the fourth-ranked team in Big Ten recruiting!' Who cares? ... I just know that I feel good about the players that we got here in this class." Let's get to know them… B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . C O M
