Without the frame and weight of a big-time tight end prospect, the Fair- field (Ohio) High School product made a commitment to add the size needed to get noticed by some of the best col- leges in the country. The hard work paid off for All. "I look back at his sophomore year and he started as a wide receiver for us at probably 6-2, 175 pounds," Fairfield head coach Jason Krause said. "The biggest thing Erick did was he was very conscientious about gaining weight and taking care of his body. He ended up blossoming into a kid that's almost 6-5 and 220 [pounds] by the time he left here. "He did a really, really good job with his diet and focus- ing on being in the weight room every single day and not missing a day." All changed his eating habits, and it helped him gain the necessary weight to look more and more like a player a school like Michigan would want. Krause said that it's difficult for high school players to put on significant weight due to the intensity of training and the players' high metabolism, but All was able to transform his body. Rivals.com Midwest recruiting ana- lyst Josh Helmholdt saw All play in both his junior and senior years. All's physical change was the biggest part of his development as a player. "The main way I've seen him de- velop is physically," Helmholdt said. "When I saw him as a junior, it didn't look like he was anywhere close to col- lege tight end size. And he really im- proved height wise and frame wise in the offseason be- tween his junior and senior seasons. "That's the big- gest developmental key that I've seen from him through- out his career in high school, but he also grew as a foot- ball player as well." Not only will All be providing U-M with his physical presence, he will also arrive in Ann Arbor with exceptional versatility. Krause said his ability to play multiple positions is what will make him successful at the college level. "He's a kid that they can play in all All caught 73 passes for 1,049 yards and seven touchdowns in his three seasons at Fairfield (Ohio) High School. The staff also signed Mustapha Muhammad and Luke Schoonmaker in the 2018 class, but they each redshirted this past season. All is the only tight end Michi- gan took in the 2019 class, and will likely be behind all four afore- mentioned players on next year's depth chart.
