76 THE WOLVERINE MARCH 2019   MICHIGAN RECRUITING a priority and Michigan would love to grab some of those and tackles like: Mars (Pa.) High four-star offensive tackle Michael Carmody At 6-6, 273 pounds, Carmody is ac- tually athletic enough to have played tight end last year. He's the No. 29 offen- sive tackle in the country and is one of U-M's top targets at the position. Penn State might be leading the pack for him, but Michigan is in the mix. Sterling (Va.) Dominion three-star offensive tackle Jimmy Christ Christ picked up his Michigan offer in January, meaning he's a recently evaluated tackle prospect. At 6-7, 280 pounds, he's very long and athletic, and will give U-M a real shot. Baltimore St. Frances two-star of- fensive tackle Micah Mazzccua Mazzccua is just a two-star prospect, but he's starting to stack up some de- cent offers from schools like Maryland, Syracuse and Virginia Tech to go along with Michigan and a few others. Being from St. Frances and measuring 6-6, 290 pounds makes him an intriguing target for U-M. Oak Park (Mich.) High five-star of- fensive guard Justin Rogers Any time there's a five-star prospect in the state of Michigan, the Wolverines need to be involved. That's the case with Rogers at this time, but he is wide open. The No. 1 offensive guard and No. 14 overall prospect nationally originally left Michigan off of his top list, but he visited Ann Arbor several times this past fall. Park Ridge (Ill.) Maine South four- star offensive tackle Peter Skoronski The coaches love Skoronski even though he's a little shorter than other offered tackles at 6-4, 270 pounds. He's the No. 28 offensive tackle in the coun- try and checked out Michigan for an unofficial visit in early February. Cambridge (Mass.) Buckingham Browne & Nichols four-star offensive tackle Zak Zinter Any time the Wolverines are involved with a kid from New England they'll have a chance. As a Massachusetts na- tive, Zinter is one of those prospects. The 6-6, 300-pound lineman is considered the No. 14 offensive tackle and No. 148 overall prospect in the country, and is linked most closely to Boston College, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State. DEFENSIVE LINE Scholarship Players In 2020: 13 Need: 4-5 Commits: 0 Defensive line, specifically on the in- terior, is probably the biggest area of need for U-M in 2020. Defensive end is potentially in pretty good shape as far as likely starters are concerned, but the depth is unproven. The Michigan staff would love to bring in some big bodies along with some pass rushers like: Damascus (Md.) High five -star strongside defensive end Bryan Bresee Bresee has a top six consisting of Al- abama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State. He's the No. 1 strongside defensive end and No. 5 overall prospect nationally, so his loaded top group is not surprising. At 6-5, 280 pounds, he's a beast and is only getting better. Carmel (Ind.) Carmel four-star de- fensive tackle Cole Brevard Brevard is an athletic load at 6-4, 280 pounds. He's been to Michigan several times, but that was when Greg Mattison was coaching the defensive line. It'll be interesting to see how involved he is with new defensive line coach Shaun Nua moving forward. Ci n c i n n at i Pr i n ce to n fo u r - s t a r strongside defensive end Darrion Henry The same can be said about Henry. The 6-5, 265-pounder visited Michi- gan several time this past and spent a lot of time with Mattison. The No. 4 strongside defensive end and No. 43 overall prospect nationally is prob- ably going to end up at Ohio State, but U-M made him feel like a priority all last fall. Lake Forest (Ill.) High four-star strongside defensive end Rylie Mills At 6-5, 270 pounds, Mills may have a future on the interior, but for now he's the No. 9 strongside defensive end and No. 165 overall player in the land. He received a visit from the U-M staff in January and is still a priority despite Mattison's departure. Just about every school wants Mills, including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin and — perhaps most notably — Notre Dame. Baltimore St. Frances three-star de- fensive tackle Jonathan Wallace Michigan is going to have a chance with every St. Frances Panther, and Wal- lace is among that group. He's a mas- sive 6-3, 350 pounds and would be an ideal nose in coordinator Don Brown's defensive scheme. Florida, Michigan, The biggest area of need for U-M in 2020 is likely interior defensive linemen, so players such as four-star defensive tackle Cole Brevard of Carmel (Ind.) High will be pursued by the Wolverines. PHOTO COURTESY RIVALS.COM
