16 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY MATT CARTER B ehind a bevy of stellar performances, NC State women's swimming and div‑ ing claimed its second ACC title in three years, outpointing league rivals Virginia and Louisville at the hotly contested meet Feb. 20‑23 in Greensboro, N.C. "It's a great feeling for these ladies," head coach Braden Holloway told Swim‑ Swam.com following the meet. "Some of them were here two years ago and they remembered what it was like, and they wanted to try to get that feeling again. Some of them are brand new." NC State won 11 events at the meet, breaking the previous school record of 10 when the Pack won the conference title in 1980. Overall, this is the women's fourth league title in program history. "I think this year, in looking across the board, we scored a lot of points throughout the whole meet," Holloway said. "We had a few obviously big events, but we scored in all the events across the board a good amount compared to other years and maybe the other year that we won it." The biggest event for the Pack was the 400 individual medley, which NC State swept the top four positions in the A finals. Sophomore Kate Moore won the race fol‑ lowed by junior Makayla Sargent, fresh‑ man Emma Muzzy and sophomore Julia Poole. Moore was the first‑ever Pack swim‑ mer to win the 400 individual medley and set a school record in the race with her time of 4:05.24. Poole additionally took first place in the 200 individual medley. Another huge race for the Pack was the 1,650 freestyle, won by sophomore Tamila Holub. Senior Anna Jahns and Sargent completed a sweep of the podium by the Wolfpack. Freshman Sophie Hansson had a huge meet, setting an ACC record in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 57.74 seconds and then capturing the 200 breaststroke crown. Muzzy was another rookie who won a title in her debut at the meet, tak‑ ing first in the 200 backstroke. The 100 backstroke was taken by NC State senior Elise Haan. Junior Madeline Kline won her second straight platform dive title. NC State also won three relays, setting ACC records in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle, and a school and meet record in the 400 medley. In addition to the winners, junior Ky‑ lee Perry took second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle sprints, and her teammate freshman Kylee Alons was third in the 50. Moore also took second in the 500 freestyle. The Wolfpack entered the ACC meet ranked fourth nationally in the final Col‑ lege Swimming and Diving Coaches Asso‑ ciation of America poll. Virginia had been ranked No. 5.
