T H E M O N T H I N . . . O P I N I O N S Bringing back starters John Reid and Garrett Taylor will give some consistency, but the depth behind them is young. Donovan Johnson and Jonathan Sutherland don't have a ton of experience, and Lamont Wade... is coming off an underwhelming sophomore season. If the defense is going to take a step forward, it's going to need to replace the production of [Amani] Oruwariye and [Nick] Scott, who each had a team-high three interceptions in 2018, as well as find depth and build competition within each position. TOM VANHARREN ESPN.COM [Trace] McSorley's accountability is matched by his enthusiasm to show what he knows. "They've brought videos from other teams, they'll have you draw up plays," he said. "So that's the type of stuff that I love. I love being on film, ex- plaining our reads. I feel like I know our system incredibly well, like the back of my hand." Now all he needs to do is get teams around the NFL to know him the same way. NICK FIERRO ALLENTOWN MORNING CALL Franklin's first slide [at a 2014 high school coaching seminar] read "UNRIVALED Penn State Football." His last slide outlined Penn State's spring practice schedule, as he invited all the coaches in the room to attend a PSU practice. In between, he listed Penn State's core values — you know them by heart, by now; no need to list them here again. But the core of his message was the same then, as it is likely now: After a 9-4 season in 2018 that saw the Nittany Lions go a shaky 5-4 and average just 24 points per game down the stretch, succeeded by an exodus of Old Testament dimensions, we know this: Opportunity is now here. Again. MIKE POORMAN STATECOLLEGE.COM Penn State has determined the start times for 2019 football one-way traffic patterns, in consultation with university police and other local traffic officials. For games that begin at noon, the one- way traffic pattern will begin at 8:30 a.m. Beaver Stadium parking lots will open at 7 a.m. for noon games, providing fans with a 90-minute window to access their parking lot via any route. For all other games, the one-way traf- fic pattern will begin four hours prior to kickoff. For example: • 3:30 p.m. kick: Stadium parking lots will open at 8 a.m. and the one-way pat- tern will begin at 11:30 a.m. • 6 p.m. kick: Stadium lots will open at 8 a.m. and the one-way pattern will begin at 2 p.m. • 8 p.m. kick: Stadium lots will open at 8 a.m. and the one-way pattern will begin at 4 p.m. In an effort to address traffic and park- ing challenges on football game days, Penn State Athletics announced last No- vember several changes for traffic and parking for the 2019 season. These changes are being implemented after an evaluation of the operation by the uni- versity and an outside consultant, SP+. The most significant changes include the creation of four traffic zones and designating game day parking for gen- eral parking lots. Once the one-way traffic pattern be- gins, fans will be required to travel to their specific Beaver Stadium lot from one of four traffic zones that have been created (North, South, East and West). All parking permits will have zone- and lot-specific driving direction instruc- tions. Once the one-way traffic pattern be- gins, vehicles that attempt to access their parking lot via the incorrect traffic zone will be rerouted to the correct zone. University police have indicated to In- tercollegiate Athletics that the vast ma- jority of pedestrian traffic typically clears the Beaver Stadium area approxi- mately 90 minutes after a game ends. The outbound one-way traffic pattern will be in effect from the of end of the contest for approximately 90 minutes, and fans will be required to leave their lot via the directions for their specific traffic zone. Once the one-way out- bound traffic pattern ends, fans will be able to exit their lot and leave the sta- dium vicinity via any route. ■ F O O T B A L L Penn State announces game day trac patterns
