F O O T B A L L Galt extols Lions' eort in winter workouts Twice a year, just before the start of spring practice and again at Lift for Life, Penn State makes its director of per- formance enhancement, Dwight Galt, available to the media to answer ques- tions. Galt never disappoints. Last month, he answered reporters' questions following a testing session that included vertical jumps and squats, delivering his unique insight into the program's progress. Throughout the winter workout sessions, Galt said he saw signs of team-wide improvement. "It's been awesome," he said. "The at- titude, the approach, the motivation, the energy have been great all winter. It's been a blast. The guys are really moti- vated and ready to go." Here's a look at some of the more noteworthy items to emerge from Galt's session with the media: OWEH IMPRESSES Redshirt freshman defensive end Jayson Oweh had the at- tention of the media, the strength staff and the rest of the team during his testing session. From the sound of it, that was the case throughout win- ter workouts. Oweh played sparingly last season, seeing action on 65 defensive snaps spread out over four games. He showed his potential with two sacks against Kent State, and he backed up that tanta- lizing sneak preview with a strong per- formance in the weight room. "Jayson has got a chance" to be a special player at Penn State, Galt said. "He's got a chance as a strength/speed athlete, which is great for me, but also to really transfer that to the field and be something N E W S & N O T E S HEAVY DUTY Defen- sive tackle P.J.
