APRIL 2019 THE WOLVERINE 15   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Getting To Know Women's Lacrosse Sophomore Attacker Caitlin Muir Women's lacrosse sophomore attacker Caitlin Muir began her Michigan career with a bang last season, starting 13 contests and racking up 18 goals (fourth most on the team) and 12 assists (led the club) during her rookie campaign in Ann Arbor. The Honeoye Falls, N.Y., native has picked up in 2019 right where she left off last year, once again leading the squad in assists with 16 (nobody else has more than seven), while tying for second in points with 30 (as of March 20) during the club's record-setting 10-0 start. Here are a few other facts you may not know about Muir: Nickname: "The closest thing I have to a nickname is Cate." Favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor: "I really like the NeoPapalis pizza place. My housemates and I go there all the time." Best meal she can cook by herself: "Pasta. It's super easy!" Hobbies: "Hanging out with my friends and reading. I actually try to read whenever I get the chance." Favorite TV show: "'This Is Us.'" Favorite movie: "'Girls Trip.'" Dream vacation: "Bora Bora." Favorite place she's been to: "The Big Island of Hawai'i." Favorite professional athlete: "[American professional tennis player] Serena Williams." Role model: "I honestly don't have one." Sports she plays besides lacrosse: "I only play lacrosse nowa- days." Why she chose Michigan: "I loved the school atmosphere and how everything was so Michigan-oriented. As soon as I stepped on campus here, it just felt like home. I also admire the sports prestige and how everybody cares about all the teams, no matter how big they are. The academics here are also second to none, so even if I don't have a career in lacrosse after college, my academic degree will still get me far in life." What she hopes to do after lacrosse: "I'd like to get into the business world. I'm not 100 percent sure what exactly yet, but I'm leaning toward something involved with sports and marketing." Her overall experience at Michigan: "It has been amazing. My coaches, teammates and everyone else have just been incredible the whole time here." — Austin Fox Muir has been a crucial piece of Michigan's record-setting 10-0 start, notching a team-high 16 assists and tying for second with 30 points as of March 20. PHOTO COURTESY MICHIGAN PHOTOGRAPHY MICHIGAN'S TOP PERFORMERS Softball sophomore pitcher Meghan Beaubien: After grabbing wins over No. 2 UCLA March 1 and No. 5 Washington March 3 at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., she was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week. The lefty limited the Bruins and Huskies to a combined three runs on nine hits in 14 innings over the two contests. The sophomore first yielded just one run in Michigan's 3-1 triumph over UCLA, and then surrendered only two while striking out five batters in U-M's 4-2 victory over Washington. Baseball junior pitcher Tommy Henry: He was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week March 4 after throwing eight shutout innings in Michigan's 2-1 win at Cal State Northridge March 1. Henry retired the game's first 13 batters and did not allow a base runner until giving up a hit with one out in the fifth inning. The junior southpaw threw 90 pitches while striking out 12 batters and yielding only three hits and a walk. Women's basketball freshman for- ward Naz Hillmon: She reeled in several awards March 4, including consensus first- team All-Big Ten honors, and was named the league's Freshman of the Year by the media (just the second in school history) and the conference's Sixth Player of the Year by the coaches. Hillmon appeared in all 32 games off the bench, leading the club in points per contest (13.2), rebounds per game (6.9) and field goal percent- age (62.6). The 6-2 Cleveland native also registered seven double-doubles, scored in double figures 18 times and ended the regular-season with eight 20-point showings. Ice hockey freshman forward Nolan Moyle: He was tabbed as the Big Ten First Star of the Week Feb. 26 after back-to-back impressive performances against No. 6 Ohio State Feb. 22-23. In the Wolverines' 4-2 victory over the Buckeyes Feb. 22, Moyle tallied two goals, including the game-winner. He followed that per- formance up by registering the game-ty- ing goal midway through the third period, which sent the contest into overtime before it eventually ended in a 3-3 tie. Men's lacrosse senior midfielder Brent Noseworthy: He recorded two goals to give him 94 for his career in the Maize and Blue's 16-11 triumph at St. John's March 2, setting a new school record in the process. Noseworthy's 94th career marker at 10:38 of the third quarter passed former Wolverine Ian King (2014- 17) on the program's all-time goals list. The Ontario native has steadily improved each year in Ann Arbor, posting just six goals as a fresh- man in 2016, 37 as a sophomore in 2017, 41 last year and now 10 so far through six games this season. — Austin Fox
