F O O T B A L L PSU draft hopefuls make their case at Pro Day Fifteen former Penn State play- ers took part in the football pro- gram's annual Pro Day March 19 at Holuba Hall, hoping to enhance their standing as the NFL Draft ap- proaches later this month. The players on hand were quarter- back Trace McSorley, running backs Miles Sanders and Johnathan Thomas, wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins, offen- sive linemen Ryan Bates, Connor McGovern and Chasz Wright, defensive tackle Kevin Givens, defensive end Shareef Miller, line- backers Koa Farmer, Jake Cooper and Donnel Dix, cornerback Amani Oruwariye, safety Nick Scott and long snapper Kyle Vasey. There were 30 NFL scouts in attendance representing all but two franchises, the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals. In addition, scouts were on hand from two CFL teams, as well as the WWE, which has been trying to restart the XFL after the original incarnation of the spring football league folded in 2001 following its lone season. One of the most scrutinized players at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis three weeks earlier, McSorley threw well on Pro Day. He had four incompletions on a variety of routes, during which he threw to Sanders, Thomas, Thompkins and Jylil Reeder, a for- mer East Stroudsburg wideout who was also taking part in the event. Two of the incomple- tions were drops, while the other two were just off the mark. McSorley's receivers also bailed him out on a couple of occasions, mak- ing acrobatic catches on balls that could easily have fallen incomplete.
