UVA Women's Basketball Reunion This year's UVA Women's Basketball reunion was held February 23-24, 2019, for alumnae, managers, coaches and their family mem- bers. The weekend included a fun variety of events for alumnae to meet the current team and new staff. On Saturday, there was an open practice with breakfast for alumnae to watch the cur- rent team in action, lunch at MiDici's with the staff and student-athletes and an eve- ning social at Burton's Grill to reminisce with fellow alumnae. Sunday's finale was the team's matchup vs. Georgia Tech, Virginia's last home game of the 2018-2019 season and Senior Day. Prior to the game, alumnae witnessed the Senior Day ceremony for Moné Jones and Shakyna Payne. During halftime, alumnae were invited on the court for their own recognition with individual name announce - ments and a sincere message from coach Tina Thompson. Coach Thompson also honored Hall of Fame head coach Debbie Ryan with remarks and two framed keepsakes which had the crowd cheering in appreciation. Following the game, alumnae provided on- court autographs for fans and were able to join the team for a Senior Day celebration. Thank you to all alumnae for your loyal support of Virginia women's basketball. We hope to see you back in Charlottesville for the next reunion! In this article, I write to give you an overview of the NCAA Autonomy proposals that were adopted at the 2019 NCAA Convention. The Autonomy membership adopted eight proposals and one resolution. A breakdown of the propos- als adopted by the NCAA bylaw are listed below: NCAA Bylaw 11/Conduct and Employment of Athletics Personnel: 1. Permits a graduate assistant coach in rowing and swimming and diving to receive any meal associated with a team activity without having to deduct the meal from their meal stipend. NCAA Bylaw 13/Recruiting: 1. Changes the term "relatives" and "parents/legal guardians" in Autonomy legislation to "family mem- bers". 2. Permits an institution to provide room and board ex- penses to a prospective student-athlete to participate in required summer athletic activities prior to initial summer school enrollment and to a student-athlete to participate in required summer athletic activities while not enrolled in summer school. 3. Reduces the number of complimentary tickets a pros - pect would receive on an official visit from 6 to 5. 4. Permits an institution to "reserve" (but not pay) for additional complimentary tickets for the prospect to purchase, if necessary, for additional guests during an unofficial visit adjacent to seats being provided by UVA. NCAA Bylaw 16/Awards, Benefits and Expenses for En- rolled Student-Athletes: 1. Requires Autonomy schools to provide/make available mental health services and resources to student-athletes. 2. Adds Omega-3 fatty acids to the permissible nutritional supplement list. NCAA Bylaw 17/Playing and Practice Seasons: 1. Permits a coach to hold one team meeting during the 7-day discretionary period at the conclusion of a team's championship segment. Resolution: The resolution requires the Autonomy membership to examine issues and create proposals for the 2020 NCAA Convention related to agents and advisors that assists stu- dent-athletes with professional sport career planning and decision making.
