game, and he was hosted by freshman receiver Chris Brown … He proceeded to decommit from USC in early November and made official visits on USC and Washington … Cal and UCLA had also received unofficial visits during the process … The Irish quickly became the leader following his decommitment and were able to maintain that position. He announced his choice to play in South Bend during the Under Armour All-America Game Jan. 4 … His primary recruiter from Notre Dame was outside wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Mike Denbrock, who landed two of the top players in California for the 2013 class (the other being five-star defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes). Why He Chose Notre Dame: "I just felt at home there. I wanted to experience something different, and Notre Dame gave me that opportunity. I felt all the coaches were genuine and that I could trust them. Notre Dame has put a lot of players into the NFL, and I want to have that opportunity someday. It's a great team, and we have a great recruiting class. I felt I got along really with the players and when you add great academics, you can't beat a place like that." Jason Sapp's Scouting Report: His playmaking skills make him a difference-maker that the Irish heavily pursued as the top target for a safety/cornerback hybrid role … He can come up and make a hit, but is also agile enough to cover … Plays with passion, remains composed under pressure, loves to stick the ball carrier and doesn't waste any time filling the hole after making a quick read. 2013 Projection: The Irish zeroed in on Redfield due to his versatility and quick-impact potential. He can line up at multiple positions on the defense (and is even a talented receiver), and when you think of a kid that would probably be the closest to having a Elijah Shumate type of role in their first season, this touted player is the guy. A special teams role is expected at minimum.
