The former Michigan pitcher, an injury casualty for much of his career, recently signed a minor league deal with the Cleveland Indians after spending the last few years in Boston. He joins new Cleveland and former Red Sox manager Terry Francona in Florida for spring training with an opportu- nity to prove himself. Hill made 40 appearances in a Red Sox uniform, joining the team after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2011. The 33-year-old alternated between Boston and Triple-A Pawtucket, but pitched well with the Sox. He went 2-0 with a 1.14 ERA in 31 2/3 innings with Boston between 2010 and 2012. Hill, a lefty, went 1-0 with a 1.83 ERA in 19 2/3 innings spread out over 25 appearances last season. He returned to the disabled list in June with an elbow strain and didn���t return until September. ��� Headlinersthis month Former Michigan athletes in the news Charles Woodson ��� NFL The Green Bay Packers released the multi-year All-Pro with two years remaining on his contract. Woodson missed most of the year with a shoulder injury, but has said he���s not ready to retire. He did, however, offer that he only wants to play for a Super Bowl contender. Harold Goodwin ��� NFL The Arizona Cardinals hired the former Michigan reserve offensive lineman away from the Indianapolis Colts to be their offensive coordinator and line coach. Goodwin has coached offensive line with the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts in the last several years. Jamal Crawford ��� NBA Crawford scored 27 points in his return to New York, his former team, Feb. 10, leading the Los Angeles Clippers to a 102-88 win. Crawford went 12 of 22 from the floor and 3 of 8 from three-point range.
