football recruiting issue Distance does break down a family, and closeness is a close-knit bond that sends them right back there. He and I had to go back up there and talk to Brady Hoke and say, You need to get this guy and think about it. At that point, [Dawson] did see the opportunity for him to stay here. That made a difference, too. It wasnt necessarily easy for the Michigan coaching staff to bring Dawson back. Under Hoke, the Wolverines have established a policy of not allowing committed recruits to visit other schools a rule that Dawson decommitted from U-M in order to circumvent. There also might be a situation where because of the fluidity that can happen that we might come back and might say, Hey you know what there is the opportunity again, Michigan director of player personnel Chris Singletary said. We always let them know that until that first Wednesday in February, the numbers are always changing, so we were always upfront with them. Were always going to let them know whats going on in their recruitment and vice versa so everything is always above board. Fortunately for Dawson and for Michigan things worked out between the parties in the long run. The Wolverines ended with a signature from the states No. 5 player and No. 2 offensive lineman, and Dawson can play his college ball close to home. Tim Sullivan
