MAY 2019 THE WOLVERINE 5   FROM OUR READERS SPRING GAME TAKEAWAYS FROM SUBSCRIBERS … • [Sophomore wideout Ronnie] Bell looked good, as did [freshman Mike] Sainristil. [Redshirt sophomore quar- terback] Dylan McCaffrey has some wheels. The defensive line looked good and linebackers are strong. Am- bry [Thomas, the junior cornerback] looks very good, but I'm a bit con- cerned about safety. [Freshman defensive tackle] Mazi Smith was impressive. He has a ways to go, but you can see enormous abil- ity there. Overall, it's a strong team. If the de- fense can get in the top-five to top- 10 range and the running backs can do damage then the sky is the limit in 2019. I would imagine Don Brown has no intention of tipping his hand as to what adjustments he's made, but he has certainly been challenged to do so. jab43 • [Redshirt freshman quarterback] Joe Milton really looks comfortable … he has great potential. BoulderMBlue • Receivers getting separation is mu- sic to my ears. michmark1 • Considering Donovan Peoples- Jones and Nico Collins were missing, the separation makes me a bit nervous for the defense. Maize&Blue • Half the team was missing and it was a very "limited/guarded" offense. Jim Harbaugh never shows anything but basic vanilla in the spring. It was kind of dull really, with a lot of emphasis on running the ball. A lot of guys got to play today (because of the injuries) that will never sniff the playing field. Hooves • I thought the offense looked good. You could get a glimpse of what it would look like if you replaced backup wide receivers with Collins and Dono- van Peoples-Jones. Scottwood • We've got a ton of work to do. The defense has holes. And the offense isn't sharp yet. Lots to improve on. Glad we have time to do that. H town Blue • Defense looked like they were ahead of the offense, as expected in the spring. The quarterbacks missed a lot of open receivers. MaizeNBlue1817 • I hope Josh Gattis can have a posi- tive impact on our defense with his varied tempo approach. Really glad to see this change in our offense. sdhoenshell • I am pleasantly surprised by how much they are doing on offense. This is actually somewhat entertaining. 2hf5forneyb • [Lining Sainristil up in the backfield as a running back] is an opportunity for HUGE mismatches, especially on the college level. I've always been sur- prised U-M didn't use its backs more in the passing game. This is a great sign, in my opinion. ck_94 ON JORDAN POOLE STAYING IN THE NBA DRAFT … • Good luck Jordan. Get stronger. Work on your dribble. Improve your shot selection. Thanks for the memo- ries! z_for_three • Thank you for "The Shot!!!" Fred Derf • Thanks for one of the most memo- rable plays of my life, Jordan. Hope you get drafted and flourish. Trouten25 • Good luck, Jordan. I hope you kill it in the NBA. You helped Michigan get to the championship game and the Sweet 16. A career too short in my opinion, but a career that left its mark. bluex2 • He made "The Shot" against Hous- ton, and that's all I care to remember him by. He had a nice career here al- though he was definitely capable of more. He definitely has NBA talent and po- tential. We will see how it plays out. blue_in_chicago • If Glenn Robinson III can hang around the league for a while so can Jordan Poole. The question is, does he have Glenn's work ethic and desire? I do not know. I guess we'll find out. sven187 • I wish him well. I do think another year with Coach Beilein would have helped his development. I think it may end up being the best decision for both the player and the team. If he was unhappy at the end of this year, it may have extended into next season, which would benefit no one. That said, I hope he does well in the NBA. Seabreeze • I've assumed that he was gone since he jumped into the draft. With the right mindset and a great offsea- son, he could have been a breakout player next season. Too bad, but I've been following who fills that spot. We will have talent. sane1 • Michigan is still ranked in the top five on projections by BartTorvik.com even without [Charles] Matthews, Iggy [Ignas Brazdeikis] and Poole. Za- vier Simpson, Jon Teske and Isaiah Livers is a great core, plus you have sophomore leaps coming from three four-stars expected as well. Eli Brooks is really good defensively, too. Michigan will be fine and a really good team next year. I think it is a mistake, but best of luck to Poole.
