SOPHIE HANSSON
Freshman • Swimming
& Diving
For the second time in three years, NC State has produced
the ACC Women's Swimming Freshman of the Year.
A native of Helsingborg, Sweden, Hansson helped the Pack
win the ACC title and tie the program's best effort with its
seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
She won both the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke
at the ACC Championships, and then captured third place in
both races at the national meet. Hansson finished behind a
pair of seniors, including Olympic gold medalist Lilly King of
Indiana, in both races at the NCAA Championships.
At the conference meet, Hansson set an ACC record in the 100
breaststroke (57.74 seconds), swimming the second fastest time
ever by a collegiate freshman.
Swimming runs in Hansson's family. Her older sister Louise
Hansson won the national title in the 100 butterfly and 200
butterfly this year for USC.
