46 ■ THE WOLFPACKER WOLFPACK FOOTBALL Riley, redshirt junior left guard Joe Scult- horpe, redshirt sophomore center Grant Gibson, junior right guard Joshua Fedd- Jackson and redshirt junior right tackle Jus- tin Witt. Three reserves on the line — redshirt freshmen Gabriel Gonzalez and Jalynn Strickland plus walk-on Charles Fletcher — also were held out. Person and walk-on fullback Marquise Braxton round out the offensive players who missed the game due to injury. The Wolfpack's defense was shorthanded at cornerback with senior Nick McCloud, sophomore Teshaun Smith and redshirt freshman Taiyon Palmer out with injuries. Fifth-year senior defensive tackle Lar- rell Murchison, freshman defensive tackle C.J. Clark, walk-on defensive tackle Danny Blakeman and redshirt freshman linebacker Payton Wilson also missed the contest. Redshirt sophomore tight end Adam Bo- selli also departed the program during the spring. The 6-5, 253-pounder from Ponte Vedra, Fla., was a Rivals.com two-star pros- pect that played in five games on special teams last year. Pack Adds Campbell To Its Future Schedule NC State has agreed to play two future football games with Campbell, according to fbschedules.com. The Pack will host Campbell on Oct. 4, 2025, and then again on Sept. 23, 2028. NCSU agreed to pay the Camels a guar- antee of $450,000 for the first contest and $475,000 for the second. Campbell is a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), but teams from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) like NC State can schedule one FCS team per year to count for its win-loss re- cord. If a team puts two FCS teams on its slate and wins both games, it could only count one towards its victory tally for bowl eligibility purposes. Campbell is coached by former Carolina Panthers star safety Mike Minter and it has gone 6-5 in each of the past two seasons. Here are NC State's known non-confer- ence opponents through 2031: 2019: at West Virginia, East Carolina, Ball State and Western Carolina 2020: Mississippi State, Delaware, Lib- erty and at Troy 2021: at Mississippi State, South Flor- ida, Louisiana Tech and Furman 2022: Texas Tech, Connecticut, at East Carolina and Charleston Southern 2023: Notre Dame, at Connecticut and VMI 2024: BYU, Louisiana Tech, at South Florida and Western Carolina 2025: at Notre Dame, East Carolina, at Louisiana Tech and Campbell 2026: at Vanderbilt 2027: at Texas Tech 2028: Vanderbilt, at East Carolina and Campbell 2029: Notre Dame 2030: at BYU 2031: at Notre Dame — Matt Carter Targeting And Overtime Rules Adjusted For 2019 Season The NCAA in April made some rules adjustments, most notably when it comes to targeting and overtime. Players are ejected from games if they have been found to have targeted an op- ponent, and if the infraction occurs in the second half that player must sit the first half of the following game. That resulted in players sometimes being suspended for bang-bang hits in which the flag was thrown for targeting and then on review the play was ruled to "stand." The NCAA is apparently looking to re- move some of those unintended conse- quences. All targeting penalties will con- tinue to be reviewed, and the replay official now must either confirm or overturn the call. It can no longer let the penalty "stand" based on inconclusive evidence. "Instant replay officials will be directed to examine all aspects of the play and con- firm the targeting foul when all elements of targeting are present," the NCAA stated. "If any element of targeting cannot be con- firmed, the replay official will overturn the targeting foul." Repeat offenders of targeting, however, will now face stiffer penalties. Players who pick up a third targeting foul during the season will be suspended a full game. In overtime, teams will now have up to four opportunities to win the game outright. Starting with the fifth overtime, teams will begin to alternate two-point plays until a winner is found. The NCAA also added a 15-yard penalty for "forcible contact on blindside blocks" and eliminated the two-man wedge forma- tion on kickoffs. — Matt Carter ■ An Early Look At The Potential Depth Chart OFFENSE Pos.
