54 ■ THE WOLFPACKER WOLFPACK BASKETBALL Dereon Seabron Signs With NC State NC State formally announced the addi- tion of three-star guard Dereon Seabron of Woodstock (Va.) Massanutten Military Academy April 18. The 6-4, 180-pound Seabron verbally committed to NC State Jan. 14 after taking an official visit to Raleigh, watching the Wolfpack host Pittsburgh. He also included Georgia, Pittsburgh, Providence and VCU in his top five, and had taken official visits to VCU, Minnesota and East Carolina. "Dereon is a tremendous athlete with a unique skill set," NC State head coach Kevin Keatts said. "He is a playmaking guard that has a team-first mentality. His length and athleticism will allow him to make plays on both ends of the floor. "We are excited to have him in Raleigh and welcome him to the Wolfpack family." Rivals.com ranks Seabron as the No. 22 point guard and No. 134 overall player in the 2019 class. This year he helped Massa- nutten compile a 32-4 record and advance to the Final Four of the National Prep Championship, where it fell to a Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy squad that fea- tured fellow NC State signee Jalen Lecque. Prior to attending prep school, Seabron averaged 22.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Lake Taylor High in Norfolk, Va. He led the team to its first-ever state title and was named the Class 4 State Player of the Year. Seabron had offers from Robert Morris, Central Connecticut State, Norfolk State, Towson, Radford, Mount St. Mary's, Cop- pin State and Hampton coming out of Lake Taylor. — Matt Carter Signee Jalen Lecque Tests NBA Draft Waters NC State signee Jalen Lecque petitioned the NBA for clarity on his draft eligibility April 2, and found out that he could indeed declare for this year's event. Lecque, who graduated from Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy this year, an- nounced his intention to enter the NBA Draft April 20 on Twitter after being cleared by the league to do so. The reclas- sified senior is a year removed from his original high school graduating class and turned 19 in the calendar year of the draft. Because Lecque didn't graduate from Arden (N.C.) Christ School a year ago, though, there was a question as to whether or not he truly was a year removed from his graduating class as is required by the NBA. However, the league ultimately determined that he did not have to wait another year to pursue a professional career. Lecque, the nation's No. 6 point guard and No. 36 overall prospect according to Rivals.com, has until midnight on May 29 to decide whether or not to remain in the 2019 NBA Draft. The New Jersey native, who has been eyeing the NBA Draft since June 2018, led Brewster Academy to the National Prep Championship in March to cap a 34-7 sea- son. He averaged 12.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks per game at Brewster, which is where former NCSU star and ACC Player of the Year T.J. Warren finished his prep career. Incoming NC State transfer guard Thomas Allen and former player Kyle Washington also played at Brewster Academy. As of May 1, NBADraft.net projected Lecque — who is working out in Atlanta — to be a second-round selection (No. 49 overall). — Jacey Zembal Rivals.com ranks Dereon Seabron of Woodstock (Va.)
