F O O T B A L L R E C R U I T I N G 2020 VISION Nittany Lions looking to fill a variety of needs with next recruiting class | P enn State has already earned 10 verbal commitments in the Class of 2020, but there's still plenty of work to do on both o2ense and defense. Heading into May, the Nittany Lions had already landed a quarter- back and 1ve linemen on o2ense, as well as one de- fensive lineman, two line- backers and a defensive back. Aside from quarter- back, the sta2 is still aim- ing to add players at every position, as this year's class is expected to reach the full 25 scholarships al- lotted. Below is a breakdown on where the Lions stand at each position heading into the summer. QUARTERBACK PROJECTED TAKE 1 OUTLOOK Penn State hosted Las Vegas native Micah Bowens and his father for an unofficial visit Feb. 1. The three-star prospect earned an offer from the staff that day, and he ended up committing just 18 days later. He's held firm since then and even returned in April with his family for the Blue-White Game. We expect Bowens to sign with the Nittany Lions come December, but the early signing period is also still seven months away, so PSU is understandably still monitoring other prospects. Four- star quarterback Robby Ashford of Hoover, Ala., has been near the top of the sta2's board for months now, and he included the Lions in his top eight. We don't believe Ashford has visited, but he could be a name to follow if he decides to make the trip. However, for now, this appears to be the one position that's done. RUNNING BACK PROJECTED TAKE 1 OUTLOOK The Nittany Lions have added three elite running backs in their past two recruiting classes: Ricky Slade, Devyn Ford and Noah Cain. Ja'Juan Sei- der would like to keep that trend going in 2020, but it won't be easy, as the sta2 is squaring o2 against some of the na- tion's best for the region's top prospects. Five-star RB MarShawn Lloyd of Hy- attsville, Md., is the highest-ranked player. He's been on campus three times but hasn't returned since last summer. Clemson, Georgia and Maryland are all in a good position, but he's not expected to decide until the season or a3er.
