Recruitment: Roane came to NC States camp in June with offers from smaller colleges, such as North Carolina A&T and Old Dominion. After Roane showcased his athleticism and overall potential, NC State decided to offer him at the end of the day of camp on June 25, and he immediately accepted. Recruiter of record: Former offensive line coach Jim Bridge. Dave Doeren on Roane: Patrick Roane comes from a great program right down the street. You love seeing 6-7 bodies on the offensive line, and with us having a senior tackle in Rob Crisp, being able to get two big, young offensive linemen in this class that we can put in the weight room with Coach [Veltkamp] and let him build them up was huge. Scouting report: The major priority for Roane will be to build up his strength. All the other physical tools are there for him. He impressively dominated a matchup with LSU-bound defensive end Greg Gilmore during the season, using his long arms and quick feet to hold Gilmore to just one assisted tackle. 2013 projection: Roane has the size, frame and athleticism to quickly impress, but he will need to get physically stronger if he wants to have a chance to play immediately. Hes more likely to redshirt next season. Laurinburg (N.C.) Scotland County High 6-1 205 pounds Measurables: Reportedly runs the 40-yard dash in 4.61 seconds. Honors/accomplishments: Selected to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas All-Star Game, where he had six tackles, including four solo hits Honored as the WPDE Channel 15 North Carolina Co-Player of the Year Named to both the NC Preps and Carolina Preps 4-A All-State teams as an athlete Selected as the Southeastern 4-A Conference Defensive Player of the Year Younger brother of former NC State linebacker Terrell Manning. Recruitment: Robinsons big senior season helped his stock rise and enabled him to get offers from Duke, East Carolina and Wake photo by ken martin Forest, and serious interest from Miami, which was trying to line up an official visit. NC State was the one offer Robinson wanted, and he got it Nov. 10. A day later he verbally committed to the Pack. Recruiter of record: Former offensive line coach Jim Bridge. Dave Doeren on Robinson: Hes versatile, he blitzes off the edge, he beats blocks with his hands, he plays over bent knees and he has the linebacker footwork that I look for: guys that are under control and play behind their pads on contact. Scouting report: Hell need to continue to fill out his frame, but he runs well. Robinson is probably not the playmaker at linebacker that his older brother Manning was, but he is a sure-handed tackler with solid instincts. 2013 projection: There may be a need for a linebacker to play early at NC State, but Robinson must get bigger and stronger over the summer to have a chance to see the field next fall. Otherwise, he will likely redshirt. Bryant Shirreffs QB Jefferson (Ga.) High 6-3 218 pounds Stats: Completed 178 of 267 passes (66.7 percent) for 2,404 yards and 18 touchdowns with only seven interceptions, and rushed 179 times for 1,383 yards and 21 more scores, as a senior Threw for 1,372 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior For his career accounted for 7,677 total yards and 90 touchdowns. Ratings: Listed as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com. Honors/accomplishments: Honored as a Max Preps All-American Picked by the Georgia Sportswriters Association as the Class AA Offensive Player of the Year Named first-team All-Northeast Georgia and selected as the All-Northeast Georgia Football Player of the Year by the Athens Banner-Herald Picked as the Region 8AA Offensive Player of the Year Helped team win the Class AA state title as a senior by completing 14 of 18 passes for 188 yards and rushing 23 times for 139 yards and three scores in the championship game Was chosen second-team All-Area by the Banner-Herald as a junior Also ran track. Recruitment: Shirreffs appeared bound for an Ivy League school, even taking official visits to Yale and Dartmouth, before NC State called in the final week in January. The Pack offered Shirreffs a scholarship and quickly arranged for an official visit the weekend of Feb. 1. Shirreffs wasted no time committing while in Raleigh, pledging for the Pack on the first night of his trip. photo courtesy rivals.com Recruiter of record: Head coach Dave Doeren. Dave Doeren on Shirreffs: Talking to coach Jim Donnan, who worked with him at some of the camps, he couldnt say enough about him how tough he was and how smart. Once you saw his film and saw how versatile he was and how hed throw it in there, dive over piles, and make people miss, he was a guy who I thought could play in our system. Scouting report: Shirreffs may not have the strongest arm, but hes a proven winner and a good athlete for the position. He helped Jefferson County win its first-ever state title. Hes also a very good student and had several offers from Ivy League schools to play football. 2013 projection: The quarterback competition is wide open at NC State, but odds are that Shirreffs will redshirt. 42 the wolfpacker 34-36,38-40,42-43.Recruiting Bios.indd 42 2/26/13 1:15 PM
