2013 football recruiting issue olina, Virginia and Wake Forest. He was an Associated Press first-team all-state selection as a junior, and he played on the same line as NC State class of 2013 signee Cole Blankenship. The Pack is the early leader for Eric Shute, a versatile 6-5, 275-pounder from Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard West High. Shute picked up an offer from NC State during junior day Feb. 16, and he told The Wolfpacker after the trip that State leads over offers from Illinois and Toledo. Defensive Line The biggest priority for NC State will be defensive line, especially ends. Luckily its a solid year for in-state defensive linemen. Rivals.com lists end Kentavious Street (64, 240) from Greenville Rose High as a five-star prospect and the No. 14 overall recruit in the 2014 class. The Pack may have an uphill climb with Street, who has labeled Florida State his favorite after the Seminoles offered in late February. The Pack has a better chance with fourstar Lorenzo Featherston of Greensboro Page. The 6-7, 215-pounder also has offers from Clemson, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, among others, but he has said that NC State is recruiting him the hardest. Featherson, listed by Rivals.com as the No. 108 overall prospect in the country, had 68 tackles, 24 stops for loss and 12 sacks as a junior. In the interior, NCSU is standing out for Deshaywn Middleton of Winston-Salem Parkland. The 6-2, 295-pounder also has offers from Duke, East Carolina and Wake Forest, and Clemson has been expressing serious interest. Another interior prospect with a reported State offer is Jerell Reaves, a 64, 270-pounder from Mooresville (N.C.) High. He had 34 tackles and four sacks as a junior. Linebacker Four-star prospect Chris Register from Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley High is a national-level recruit, but he has admitted that he has probably visited NC State more than any other school. The 6-4, 215-pounder has offers from Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina and Tennessee, among others. Rivals.com rates Register as the No. 171 overall recruit in the country. He had 110 total stops, nine tackles for loss, seven sacks, two interceptions, five forced fumbles and three passes broken up as a junior. Charlotte Berry Academy standout Cay- son Collins also has an NC State offer. However, the 6-2, 210-pounder may be favoring UNC. He had 110 tackles (74 solo), an interception, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown as a junior. A potential out-of-state prospect to follow closely is Brandon Lee from Indianapolis Lawrence Central High. The 63, 200-pounder has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, NCState and Purdue, among others, but he has mentioned he plans on making a visit to Raleigh during the spring or summer. Lee was an all-state selection after helping Lawrence Central win the 5-A state title as a junior. He had four defensive touchdowns during the year. Wesley Green from Lithonia (Ga.) Martin Luther King visited NCSU Feb. 16 for junior day. The 5-11, 170-pound corner is another four-star prospect and the No.115 overall player nationally according to Rivals.com. Green has an impressive list that includes Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. One of NCSUs most recent offers was Marcus Allen, a 6-3, 190-pound safety from Upper Marlboro (Md.) Wise High. Allens other offers include Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Northwestern, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest, among others. Allen is friends with rising redshirt freshman corner Marchez Coates at NC State and hopes to take an unofficial visit to Raleigh. Athlete Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley linebacker Chris Register, a four-star recruit and the No. 171 overall player in the country according to Rivals.com, racked up 110 tackles in 2012. photo courtesy rivals.com Defensive Back The Pack would not mind setting up a pipeline to West Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer High. Thats where Florida quarterback transfer Jacoby Brissett played high school football. Its also where defensive back Shawn Boone will be a class of 2014 target. The 5-10, 170-pound Boone has offers from NC State and Boston College. He also is getting heavy attention from Florida State, but he told Rivals.com that he is favoring NCSU. The top in-state defensive back could be Germaine Pratt of High Point Central. The 63, 190-pound Pratts early offers include NCState, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Virginia and Wake Forest. Rivals.com lists Pratt as a four-star recruit and the 146 player in the country. NC State is among the leaders, along with Clemson, for Jefferie Gibson from Hope Mills (N.C.) Grays Creek High. The 6-4, 185-pounder could play either receiver (his preference) or safety in college. North Carolina has also offered Gibson. He had 69 tackles and four interceptions, returning two for touchdowns, as a junior. In addition, he ran back a kickoff for a score. Another top in-state athlete is Johnathan Lloyd from Southern Alamance High in Graham. Rivals.com rates Lloyd as a fourstar recruit. He would like to play quarterback in college, but at 5-11 and 175 pounds he may be better suited to play slot receiver or corner. Clemson, Florida, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and West Virginia are among Lloyds many offers. NC State hosted fast-rising prospect Stanton Truitt from Monroe (Ga.) Area High Feb. 16 and gave him an offer. Truitt has also been offered by Arizona State, Boston College, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wake Forest and West Virginia, with most of them coming since mid-February. The 5-10, 180-pound speedster is a track standout that helped Monroes 4x100 relay team win a state title. On the field, the option quarterback ran 139 times for 1,448 yards and threw for another 812 yards. After signing a pair of defensive backs from Vero Beach (Fla.) High in the 2013 class, NC State could go back to that school for two-way standout Will Dawkins. The 511, 195-pounder has also been offered by South Carolina. 52 the wolfpacker 50,52.2014 Targets.indd 52 2/26/13 1:12 PM
