96 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2019 FOOTBALL PREVIEW DEFENSIVE LINE 96 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2019 FOOTBALL PREVIEW DEFENSIVE LINE PLAYER BIOS POSITION COACH Shaun Nua was named Michi- gan's defensive line coach in January 2019, following a season in the same role at Arizona State. During his lone campaign in Tempe, Nua led a group of de- fensive linemen highlighted by Renell Wren, a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. As a team, the Sun Devils finished tied for 39th in tackles for loss per game (6.7) and 73rd in yards allowed per game (404.4). Those were improvements from tied for 53rd and 109th, re- spectively, the year prior. Prior to his tenure at Arizona State, Nua spent six years (2012-17) working with the defensive line at the Naval Academy. While at Navy, the Midship- men won a single-season school-record 11 games and finished in the top 25 in 2015. Before his years at the Naval Academy, he worked three seasons at BYU as an intern and a graduate assistant. In 2010 and 2011, BYU cracked the top 25 in total defense and finished the 2011 season as the No. 25 team in the USA Today coaches' poll. Nua was a talented defensive lineman during his playing days as well. He was named to the All- Mountain West second team following his senior season at BYU and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2005 NFL Draft. Nua played in the NFL for four years and was a member of the Steel- ers' 2006 Super Bowl-winning squad. RETURNING PLAYERS MICHAEL DWUMFOUR · DT R-Jr. · Wayne, N.J.
